Job Description
Encodia is a rapidly growing platform company that is developing a new generation of protein analysis tools based on single-molecule protein sequencing. Our goal is to make protein sequencing easy and ubiquitous by using a novel reverse-translation technology that turns peptide sequences into DNA. The DNA can be read by a DNA sequencer, providing a path to breakthrough proteomics research at a scale that is not practical or cost-effective using current technologies.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Research Associate to join our Protein Engineering team. The ideal candidate should have scientific knowledge and hands-on experience in protein expression, purification and characterization.
Requirements
Your Responsibilities
- Designing vectors for expression of proteins in various host systems including E. coli and yeast
- Develop method that improve protein expression, purification and stability
- Purify protein using ion exchange, size exclusion, affinity chromatography and other methods
- Implement assay to characterize proteins for biochemical properties including binding, kinetics, biophysical and structural analysis
- Coordinate with functional groups for the production and characterization of proteins selected from phage libraries and computationally guided rational design
What You Bring to This Role
- A Master's Degree with 2+ years of experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of experience in recombinant protein expression, purification and characterization
- Scientific background and knowledge in designing vectors, maintenance expression plasmids, protein induction, and culture media
- Experience in production of proteins with various tags
- Familiar with biochemical and biophysical characterization of proteins
- Familiar with standard molecular biology tools, including plasmid isolation, cloning, and mutagenesis
- Ability to participate in multiple collaborative projects, give priority, and deliver data timely
- A team player and thrive on working in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment
- Maintain detailed documentation of experimental procedures, results, and conclusions
- Communicate results and findings to team members and management
Highly Desirable
- Industry experience in protein expression, purification and characterization
- Understand principles and workflow from designing vectors to purify protein

Compensation: $69,000 - $103,500/year. While compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
