Job Description

Mori is seeking a Sr. Scientist to join the Materials team. The candidate will lead technical projects and have significant people management duties, to include the following responsibilities (which are subject to change):

  • Identify and propose scientifically sound new research areas that would provide a deeper understanding of how silk structure relates to its functional properties
  • Scope, plan, and lead projects focused on core Ramp;D efforts
  • Statistically design and execute complex experiments towards controlling functional properties of silk with minimal oversight
  • Consistently and relevantly apply depth of understanding in biomaterials to projects and initiatives via informal and formal communication
  • Responsible for introducing, improving, developing, and documenting new methods or tools that advance the fundamental understanding of silk
  • Identify and implement new data analysis, visualization, and experimental techniques related to protein characterization
  • Complete and document extensive literature reviews
  • Interact with vendors and CROs with minimal oversight depending on project requirements
  • Ensure scientific rigor and concise narration for all deliverables from Materials team.


Compensation

  • Base salary range from $141,000 - $155,000 based on experience.

Requirements

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • 3 year minimum relevant industry experience, 5+ year ideal
  • PhD in Materials science or Biomaterials
  • Consistently demonstrates expertise regarding functional properties of proteins, such as dispersibility, wettability, solubility, viscosity, water holding capacity, gelation, coagulation, and foaming
  • Experience controlling properties of proteins and aqueous dispersions to influence macrostructural assemblies and corresponding properties of thin-films
  • Familiarity with lab techniques and instruments to characterize properties of proteins and protein solutions, including GPC, FTIR, DSC, BCA, DLS, and zeta-potential.
  • Consistently able to clearly communicate a data-driven scientific narrative in informal and formal reporting
  • Experience working on interdisciplinary teams with strong project and people management skills
  • Highly organized and focused
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
