Position Summary

The Vice President of Finance builds a financial structure that fulfills the mission, supports a sustainable and dynamic business model, and strategically designates investments that propel the organization along the right path to success. This finance leader oversees the Workforce Partnership’s accounting and finances to include: budget development, tracking, and risk management; financial operations, finance personnel management and insurance coverage; and development of projections for individual project budgets, grant budgets, and the capital improvement budgetensuring the Workforce Partnership meets short- and long-term financial goals, manages cash effectively and increases development capacity. The Vice President of Finance is also a key member of the executive team and is responsible for making decisions that impact overall Workforce Partnership strategic direction and operations.

The Work

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Develop and use forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight and recommendations for the organization’s operations and business plans
  • Oversee the development and monitoring of budgets; and present to the boards to include financial business plans and forecasts to ensure Workforce Partnership sustainability and future program growth plans are aligned with financial projections
  • Oversee grant budgeting and contract negotiations; provide financial analyses for leases, proposal cost or pricing data and review for fiscal compliance with real estate leases, grants and subcontracts prior to execution
  • Oversee all financial projects and grant accounting to ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period
  • Lead financial policy development and collaborate on corporate policy development as a member of the executive team
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
  • Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the boards
  • In collaboration with executive partners and the leadership team, develop short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and projections keeping the Workforce Partnership boards and committees informed through regular reports
  • Remain up to date on nonprofit accounting and audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations

Accounting and Operations

  • Manage and develop direct reports and ensure the finance department stays abreast of new trends, developments, laws and regulations in order to achieve organizational goals and ensure proper maintenance of all finance functions
  • Develop, implement and monitor cash, investment, asset management and finance operations policies and procedures to maintain an effective system of internal controls and financial procedures for accounting transactions and segregation of duties ensuring accuracy of all financial activities and the safeguard of Workforce Partnership assets
  • Implement systems of transparency and continuous monitoring of revenue and expenses; forecast end-of-year fund balances and prepare year-end closing entries and annual financial statements for annual audits
  • Oversee monthly allocation process, including monitoring of direct and indirect cost pools and bases of allocations and ensure compliance with cost allocation plan
  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal, state and local funders, foundations, and Workforce Partnership boards and committees; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions; and prepare for audits and ensure proper filing of tax returns
  • Oversee the preparation of financial reports to incorporate into the annual indirect cost proposal and prepare annual provisional and final indirect rates submission to federal cognizant agency

Represent the Workforce Partnership with financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.Executive Leadership
