Job Description

Groundfloor is seeking an experienced finance and accounting leader to manage a talented and agile team of accountants and analysts that is critical to our Company’s success.

In addition to leading the Company’s overall accounting operations, the Controller will partner closely with other senior leaders and teams across the organization to identify and implement operational improvements in order to streamline the Company’s financial operations, with a focus on increasing visibility, accuracy, speed and efficiency by leveraging technology to drive automation to support scaling for long-term growth.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Finance amp; Strategy, the Controller will assume direct oversight responsibility for the following:

  • Production of audited U.S. GAAP-basis financial statements for inclusion in SEC filings
  • Filing of corporate tax returns, in coordination with third party service providers
  • Month-end accounting close
  • Accounts payable
  • Execution and design of treasury processes and procedures
  • Daily financial operations and real-time reporting
  • Managing and mentoring a team of talented and tenured accounting amp; finance employees

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Mentor, develop, and lead a diverse team of finance and accounting professionals at varying levels of their career
  • Serve as the company’s expert on accounting matters, partnering with other departments (Operations, Sales, IT, and HR) on structuring policies, and advising with respect to accounting implications
  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting and finance operational functions
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls which verify the integrity of systems, processes, and data
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process

Requirements

YOUR EXPERIENCE + A FEW NICE TO HAVES:

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including both public accounting and private company experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a position of leadership within a finance and accounting organization
  • Prior experience in fintech and/or in a startup environment
  • Active CPA License
  • Mastery of US GAAP
  • Energized by solving problems, making improvements and building from scratch
  • Experience with SEC filings
  • Solid communication, technology, analytical and leadership skills
  • Must be able to communicate financial information into sound business language so people of all levels can understand.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, and credibility; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the SVP of Finance, the responsibility for finance amp; accounting.
