Vice President, ESG amp; Sustainability, Corporate Affairs (Hybrid Work Structure)

Location: Chicago, IL

BCW’s Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) team provides a C-suite consultancy model to drive transformation across all levels of business and around the globe to help move companies forward wherever they may be on their journey to getting there. Our ESG team delivers customized solutions for communications around sustainability, disclosure, and DEamp;I programs and can quickly build a bespoke suite of communications, advocacy, public affairs, employee relations, and collaboration solutions, rooted in multidisciplinary expertise.

We are looking to add a Vice President to our dynamic ESG team to play a key role in the service and growth of BCW’s Corporate Affairs portfolio in North America.

The Role:

Based in Chicago, home to BCW’s Center of Excellence for ESG, the VP will support clients with the development and execution of strategic and integrated communications impacting sustainability, social impact, and equity. In addition, the VP of ESG will contribute to the growth of the company’s sustainability and ESG portfolio and assist in capability positioning and developing agency thought leadership.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with clients to build and implement effective, measurable, and integrated ESG communications, strategies, and programs.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in the rapidly changing and evolving ESG and sustainability spaces with a dynamic and globally influential firm with an impressive F100 client mix.

What is the work?

  • Serve as a client relationship leader, key senior team member, and ESG counselor for our growing client portfolio
  • Help build and implement an integrated strategy to accelerate BCW’s ESG client portfolio and capability growth
  • Oversee project and team management workflows to ensure we are delivering the best possible service to existing clients while simultaneously creating organic growth opportunities for prospective clients
  • Advise on client strategy, omnichannel communications activities, comprehensive stakeholder engagement and communications plans
  • Serve as an expert on ESG and the broader sustainability landscape for BCW leadership and client teams
  • Proactively develop and share strategic insights with current and prospective clients
  • Help identify thought leadership opportunities for positioning BCW’s ESG capabilities, expertise and offerings in relevant, external ESG-focused publications, events, etc.
  • Partner with BCW’s internal ESG team and broader sustainability capability experts

Experience that contributes to your success:

  • The VP will have at least 8+ years of communications and business consulting experience, particularly within the ESG and Sustainability fields, with demonstrable projects and achievements across sectors and geographies
  • Demonstrated subject matter expert on ESG and Sustainability topics
  • Familiarity with materiality analysis and stakeholder engagement
  • Working knowledge of the United Nations Sustainable Development goals, GRI and SASB frameworks
  • Extensive experience in building relationships and working effectively with diverse audiences and stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of new and emerging ESG and broader sustainability trends including disclosure and regulation like CSRD
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with clients at the C-suite level
  • Desire to work in a diverse and inclusive organization as an active participant in BCW’s culture initiatives, training opportunities and employee resource groups
  • Commitment to staff development, professional growth, and mobility, and building a diverse and inclusive team
  • Deep understanding of public relations, public affairs, crisis communications, or similar work
  • Previous experience with the agency business model is preferred, including strong client management experience and experience providing clients and prospects with counsel and information on their business generally, while delivering in-depth value-adds specific to communication objectives in the ESG space
