We are looking for a highly motivated Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Manager to join our fast-growing team in our Long Island City, NY location. Reporting to the Director of Laboratory Operations, the IHC Manager will oversee IHC operations and effectively apply working knowledge and skills to train staff and take the department to the next level.   • You possess a thorough working knowledge of the IHC staining procedures, Histochemical staining procedure, and routine Histology procedures

Main Duties

Must possess a thorough working knowledge of the IHC staining procedures, Histochemical staining procedure, and routine Histology procedures sufficient to accomplish the following:

  • Oversee and train in routine preventive maintenance procedures
  • Perform antibody and equipment validations
  • Operation of automated IHC stainer and coverslipper(s)
  • Troubleshoot quality issues
  • Create and/or monitor essential documents through the daily operation
  • Exchange instrument-specific reagents at designated intervals
  • Timely completion of instrument-specific QC documentation when applicable
  • Proper handling and disposal of chemical waste
  • Immediate notification to supervisory personnel of malfunctioning instrumentation
  • QC/QA of all antibodies
  • Immediate notification of existing and/or potential problems to the proper authority
  • Maintain accurate work records (i.e., Maintenance Logs, Temperature Logs, etc.)
  • Evaluate new equipment and procedures
  • Develop and implement SOPs and protocols for IHC testing
  • Review slides for overall quality of preparation such as staining intensity, proper cover slipping, and stain artifacts
  • Provides day-to-day supervision to the histology laboratory team for both operational and human resources management
  • Ensures training and competency assessments are completed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or any related Life Science field
  • NY State license Laboratory Technologist preferred
  • 4+ years of experience managing a team
  • 5+ years of experience in a laboratory setting
  • Strong technical knowledge and a deep understanding of the theory of IHC techniques and procedures
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Experience in developing and implementing effective team processes and procedures
  • Ability to work well in a team environment both as an individual contributor and a team leader
