Job Description

The Controller will work as a member of the Finance and Accounting team. In this capacity, the Controller will partner with the Chief Financial Officer as well as other finance team members across Shepard to provide accounting and finance leadership for the company.

The ideal candidate will have strong management skills and excellent communication abilities, as well as an aptitude for analyzing data and making business decisions. The Controller will manage the day-to-day financials for Shepard as well as ensure the accuracy and integrity of the processes and controls related to the company’s financial accounts.


Essential Job Duties

  • Manage accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, fixed assets, and union benefits reporting
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Lead month-end closing activities
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP
  • Prepare and publish monthly and annual financials for both internal amp; external reporting on a timely basis
  • Prepare monthly variance commentary and analysis
  • Research technical accounting issues
  • Oversee bank transactions and ensure adequate cash on hand to meet business needs
  • Review and prepare detailed balance sheet reconciliations/schedules
  • Coordinate the annual audit, and prepare accurate and detailed PBCs as requested by the audit team
  • Manage Accounting, Receivables, and Payables Departments for the entire company
  • Treat all internal and external customers with courtesy and respect, as outlined in our Blue Diamond Customer Service Program
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Demonstrate Core Values of Caring, Commitment, Integrity, Spirit, Responsiveness, Inclusive, and Teamwork
  • Ability to perform as a responsible ESOP owner
  • 6+ years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience within a growing mid-size company required
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and ability to research and implement new technical standards
  • Advanced computer skills with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, dashboarding, and data analytics tools
  • Experience supervising accounting team
  • Experience with systems upgrades, conversions, and implementations
  • Ability and willingness to keep maintain confidentiality
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field is required
