About this position
This position works within the agency’s cross-functional Fiscal Department that oversees the accounting responsibilities for multiple state- and federally funded programs. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone with an upbeat, positive attitude who is eager to support the agency’s mission and achieve its strategic goals.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing the accounts payables systems (currently NetSuite, AvidXchange, and Company Mileage);
- Leading the staff accountants who assist with related work;
- Reviewing all invoice batches generated from the payable system for accuracy in coding and dates;
- Importing batches from payable systems to the accounting system;
- Assisting in the determination of payment methods to maximize benefits to the organization;
- Liaising between the vendors and the program directors to resolve any issues;
- Reviewing, approving, and posting accounting batches prepared by staff accountants;
- Preparing schedules and supporting documents for grant and year-end audits;
- Reviewing and preparing revenue and expenses for specific grants;
- Knowing the funding requirements and technical nuances of grants assigned;
- Preparing cash analyses;
- Preparing and reviewing grant invoices;
- Preparing and/or reviewing monthly/quarterly/yearly grant reports as required by grantors;
- Reviewing and approving monthly/quarterly balance sheet account schedules;
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Job specifications
- Reports to the controller;
- Full-time, year-round position;
- Requires some evening and weekend work hours;

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field;
- Four or more years of experience in accounting;
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel;
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
- Ability to function well in a team environment.
- Proven experience as a senior accountant
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Awareness of business trends
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
