This is an exciting time to join our amazing team. We are hiring for an Assistant Shop Manager to join us in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

As Assistant Shop Manager, you are a strong brand ambassador for Tula House. You are confident in relaying Tula’s ethos and mission and understand the importance of communicating this message to the team you manage, and the customers you serve.

Much of your time is spent on the shop floor working with your team to ensure top notch plant care, smooth deliveries, effective merchandising, excellent customer service, troubleshooting, and employee management.

You are responsible for buying, inventory and restocking of dry goods. Dry goods are defined and not limited to the following products; soil, soil amendments, planters, fertilizer, tools, grow supplies, gift products, etc. You will be expected to track inventory, analyzing sales reports, and reorder products from a wide variety of vendors.

As Assistant Shop Manager, you will work directly with the Shop Manager to collaborate on marketing and sales tactics and offer new ideas on how to exceed sales goals and merchandise products.

Job Responsibilities

Employee Management amp; Customer Service

  • Work with customers on the shop floor, selling plants, repotting, troubleshooting plant care questions and exhibiting exceptional customer service. Lead by example for shopkeepers to follow.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding in collaboration with your Shop Manager
  • Work with the Shop Manager to issue quarterly 1:1 touch base reviews with all shopkeepers.
  • Ensure daily shopkeeper productivity and task completion.
  • Ensure employees follow company guidelines and expectations. Provide feedback and retrain when necessary.

Dry Goods Buying

  • Maintain an accurate count of dry good merchandise inventory.
  • Analyze sales reports for product sales cadence in order to evaluate how much and when those products should be reordered.
  • Set alerts on when to reorder products
  • Order products with sufficient time to maintain stocked shelves.
  • Maintain a vendor spreadsheet for best contact and ways to order products.
  • Follow budgets and communicate spending and billing needs with Tula Management.
  • Communicate with the Shop Manager on which products have been ordered, when they have been shipped, and when they will arrive.
  • Work directly with Management to display new product launches while successfully telling the story behind them.

Internal Development/Operations:

  • Daily meetings with the Shop Manager to report employee performance, product performance, new product, sales goals and new initiatives to drive sales and conversion for your sales team.
  • Develop weekly sales reports
  • Weekly Management meetings to discuss overall shop performance and team development initiatives.
  • Manage storage in the office and basement; keep organized, maintain weekly inventory to delegate replenishment.
  • Keep the back room organized and accessible.
  • Recognize shop issues and assist the Shop Manager to troubleshoot.

Shop Floor

  • Work with Shop Manager to identify and delegate daily tasks for shopkeepers to complete in an effective and strategic fashion.
  • Maintain visual merchandising; exhibit a keen eye for detail, quality control and re-merchandising.
  • Identify poor sell-through products and repositioning to sell faster.
  • Ensure cleanliness of shop floor and storage areas.

Receiving/Inventory

  • Oversee and assist with product deliveries; receiving, pricing, and merchandising.
  • Manage the receival of planters and dry goods; identifying space to merch/store, pricing, and sticker printing.
  • Dry goods management - monitoring inventory levels and organization of all dry goods and planters throughout the store and in storage.

Local Deliveries amp; E-commerce

  • Management of local deliveries; schedule and pack deliveries for Tula’s local service.
  • Train and oversee staff to pack local deliveries and ship ecommerce orders.
  • Assist in answering ecommerce and customer service emails.

Workshop amp; Events

  • Assist in workshop/event programming and manage staff schedules to properly execute.
  • Available to work/assist workshops and/or events after shop hours.

Requirements

  • 3+ years retail and leadership experience covering team development, driving sales goals, visual merch
