Job Description

Title: CNC Machine Operator

Department: Machine Shop

Reports to: Machine Shop Supervisor

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Operation of Okuma CNC Lathe Turning Centers to very close tolerances (.0005 8-16 RMS surface finishes).
  • Machines raw materials into finished machined parts per drawing and manufacturing instructions which are predetermined.
  • Maintain Production Rates on given jobs on the machines.
  • CNC operators are to suggest efficiency increases when possible.
  • Responsible for housekeeping and machine preventative maintenance.
Work Activities:
  • Set-up CNC lathes with a basic knowledge of correct tool selection for a given job. Loading tools and parts correctly. Establish correct tool geometry by touching off part or tool eye.
  • Verifies program and tool settings by measuring parts with micrometers, bore gages, indicators, depth micrometers, thread gages, etc.
  • Prove out new programs as the need arises.
  • Maintains specifications by observing machining functions including facing, turning, drilling, boring, grooving, and threading operations and adjusting tool offsets as necessary. Replacing worn tools. Troubleshooting processes and adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years working experience operating CNC machines
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in close tolerance, low RMS surface finish machining
  • High School Diploma, GED, or Technical Degree/Certificate Preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret information from various blue prints
  • A professional attitude and strong goal oriented approach to tasks
  • Knowledge and skilled in using a variety of hand tools as well as using correct tool required for the job.
  • Knowledge and skilled in using a variety of metrology and measuring tools.
  • Ability to be flexible such as adapting plans, schedules or actions to accomplish the most productive work environment.
  • Work over time as required on a job by job basis.
  • Contributor in continuous improvement and quality initiative.


ADA Notice:

This job requires the ability to lift parts up to 50lbs. This job requires the ability to stand and sit for periods up to an hour. This position also requires the ability to use fine motor skills in both hands.
