Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.
As a member of the Office of the General Counsel of the national office of PPFA and the Action Fund (and its related PACs) (collectively, National Office), the Associate General Counsel will provide the Policy, Campaigns, and Advocacy and Communications teams, as well as administrative staff and leadership, with first-rate, effective, and reliable legal counsel. Reporting to the Director of Advocacy and Political Law, the Associate General Counsel will be directly involved in structuring, documenting, assessing and mitigating the risks of complex transactions, projects, and policy initiatives, in a multitude of advocacy and/or political areas, including nonprofit tax law, campaign finance law, corporate governance, intellectual property, and fundraising.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Ensure that the National Office conducts its business in compliance with all applicable laws, standards and practices, including federal and state campaign finance laws, lobbying disclosure requirements, gift and ethics rules, and tax laws governing exempt organizations, including, specifically, the operation of affiliated 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and 527 organizations Provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications of non-legal matters Serve as legal advisor on the National Office’s major transactions and programs, including contract negotiation and review Participate in defining, assessing, and/or developing corporate policies, procedures, and/or programs Assist in selecting, retaining, managing, and overseeing outside counsel, as necessary to support the National Office’s programmatic and operational needs Provide advice on other matters requested by the General Counsel
Requirements:
Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school. Bar Admission: Admitted to practice in New York or Washington, D.C.
Legal Experience: At least five year years of legal experience is required. Expertise in U.S. not-for-profit corporate and tax matters and/or campaign finance laws required. Experience as in-house counsel or as an attorney for a relevant regulator is a plus.

Title amp; Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 /commensurate with experienceFinal offers for this job will be based on capabilities and will be made within the parameters of the PPFA compensation program.
