Job Description

The Collection Specialist will work as part of the Finance team to resolve overdue bills and collect payments from customers. This position ensures those responsible for unpaid bills are contacted and maintains a balance between building trustful relationships and ensuring timely payments are received. This position will work cross functionally with accounting and finance teams and reports directly to the Credit Analyst.

Requirements

  • Monitor accounts to identify outstanding debts
  • Investigate historical data for each debt or bill
  • Find and contact clients to ask about their overdue payments
  • Take actions to encourage timely debt payments
  • Process payments and refunds
  • Resolve billing and customer credit issues
  • Update account status records and collection efforts
  • Report on collection activity and accounts receivable status

Experience Required:

  • 1-2 years of experience as a collection specialist
  • Proficiency utilizing financial software
  • Knowledge of billing procedures and collection techniques (e.g. skip tracing)
  • Familiarity with laws related to debt collection (e.g. FDCPA)
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and databases
  • Comfortable working with targets

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical aptitude, strong understanding of principles and mechanics for effective data structure and analysis

  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks
  • Professional working with various levels of management and cross functionally throughout organization

Education and Abilities Required:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field strongly preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally move product weighing up to 50 pounds, including lifting, placing, pushing and pulling

Work Environment:

  • Ability to remain at a stationary position 50% of the time
This position requires onsite attendance and is not eligible for telework
