Smart Wires is currently looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer based in St. Petersburg, FL to support our Manufacturing team.

The Position

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is a critical role within our Manufacturing organization. The SQE reports to the Supply Chain SVP and is responsible for ensuring supplied material meets our quality requirements. The SQE works with the design engineering, supply chain, and suppliers to ensure that procured materials are properly specified and manufactured in accordance with our requirements and that processes are in place to sustain existing part quality as well as ensure new part/product quality. Qualified candidates are energetic, excellent communicators, have experience in supplier/manufacturing quality, and can thrive when working as part of a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage supplier qualifications to ensure that assigned suppliers can produce material, and/or components that will consistently meet Engineering drawing and specification requirements
  • Be the technical focal point to coordinate Sourcing, Design amp; Materials Engineering functions while interfacing with suppliers
  • Provide technical guidance to suppliers to assure product/process compliance with engineering drawings and specifications
  • Manage supplier non-conformances Supplier Change Request (SCR) activities
  • Perform robust Root Cause Analysis to solve quality issues and prevent reoccurrence
  • Drive suppliers to complete continuous improvement projects to improve top issues
  • Work closely with Sourcing, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to eliminate any barriers that may affect the quality of sourced components
  • Utilize technical expertise and judgement to solve problems. Leverages technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions
  • Experienced with Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing for mechanical parts, as well as electrical and PCBA specification conventions

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a closely related field (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 3-5 years of experience in supplier quality
  • Experience with mechanical and electronic component specifications and quality assurance

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Supplier Quality Experience in PCBAs, PCBA components, electronics, or electrical components
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability to document, plan, communicate, and execute programs
  • Established project management skills
  • Strong project management skills and ability to support suppliers through the assessment/qualification process


Location

This position is located at Smart Wires contract manufacturer facility located in St. Petersburg, Florida.


Travel Requirements

Occasional travel to other Smart Wires or supplier sites as dictated by business needs.
