Job Description
The Sr. System, Network, amp; Security Engineer is responsible for the setup, configuration, maintenance, and continuous operation of the Synthego network. They will manage network hardware, including firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi access points, servers, telecom, and UPS. Key responsibilities include system and security configuration, training backup personnel, and implementing improvements. The engineer will also manage Windows Server infrastructure, implement, and maintain networking hardware, ensure security measures, and document the environment.
They should have strong analytical skills, prioritize multiple projects, and establish positive working relationships. Additional skills and qualifications are desirable, such as training others, optimizing network architecture, monitoring helpdesk tickets, and familiarity with SOX controls. The ideal candidate has a relevant degree or equivalent experience, along with expertise in Windows Server management, strong network concepts, and relevant technologies. They should be proactive, adaptable, and able to work well individually or in a team.What You'll Do: - This position will be responsible for the configuration and maintenance of all Server Systems, Networking Systems and Security Systems, as well as day-to-day operations of these systems.
- Management of Windows Server infrastructure on premise as well as in the cloud via AWS.
- Active Directory experience in a hybrid environment is critical.
- Comfortable with both G-Suite and Microsoft Office product sets.
- Implementation and maintenance of all networking hardware including firewall, switches, and Wireless Access Points. Fortinet and Meraki experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of VLAN concepts and experience implementing a VLAN architecture. Review organization’s structure and propose and implement network segmentation to improve information management and communication performance.
- SDWAN conceptual understanding, and hands on implementation experience.
- Focus on security and recommend improvements to current solutions that are in place.
- Review Firewall configuration and propose policies to further protect Synthego from external attacks and internal misuse. Work with 3rd party vendor on optimization of the firewall layer.
- Forward thinking security mindset, utilizing best in class solutions. Identify opportunities to protect Synthego’s email infrastructure from unwanted communication, phishing, malware, virus, and ransomware attacks.
- Management of on prem VMWare clusters.
- Some management of VMs in AWS in cooperation with DevOps group.
- Evaluation and implementation of monitoring infrastructure to help create an environment where IT knows about potential problems before they happen.
- Documentation of the environment, including all Systems architecture, Network diagrams, and Security configuration.
- Support, document and improve current backup structure where appropriate.
- Management for upgrades to the Enterprise Systems, Network Firmware, and Security systems.
- Support mobile environment with MDM solutions. Recommendations for streamlining of VOIP environment.
About you: - BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience
- 6+ years’ experience managing Windows Servers in a VMware vSphere/ESXi environment.
- Solid understanding of Network Concepts
- Experience with Meraki Switches and Apps, Fortinet Firewall and Fortinet Switches.
- Willingness to learn and take ownership of the environment you will manage.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deliverables, and short timeframes.
- Work well individually, or as part of a multi-faceted team.
- Must be self-motivated, innovative, success driven, and have a mastery of problem-solving skills. Manage system priorities daily and actively communicate changes to management and/or employees in a timely manner.
- Desire to help grow the IT team’s experience by training less experienced staff so that there is overlap and additional coverage. Attitude that everyone benefits when everyone knows more.
Nice to Have: - Provide training to other group members so that there are overlapping skills so there are no single points of failure in the organization.
- Assist with performance improvements regarding network architecture related to access to Enterprise SaaS applications.
- Evaluate and suggest improvements to WAN and LAN architecture.
- Monitor helpdesk tickets for repeating issues related to systems, network, and security topics.
- Understanding of the Enterprise application that are deployed and provide backup for these systems when necessary.
