Job Description

We are a family practice primary care physician's office in Malibu, CA looking for a person to join our incredible team as an MA amp; Phlebotomist.


Position Summary: responsible for coordinating the care of the patient from escorting patient to exam room, performing vital signs, preparing patient for exam and discharge and for ensuring the accurate documentation of patient care activity, as well as completing front office procedures and efficiently collecting patient blood specimens. Occasional home visits for obtainment of labs specimens, ECGs, or injections as directed by clinic leadership for both Cure and Malibu Medical.

  • Demonstrate compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • Perform within the scope of practice for the professional license held.
  • Following standard work, assists patients to exam/procedure rooms; obtains medical and social history, vital signs, height and weight, allergy information, medication reconciliation
  • Information and records data in EHR.
  • Assists providers so that appropriate preparation, examination, and diagnostic testing occur without error and without delay.
  • Process patient referrals to other provider offices.
  • Prepare patient EMR charts timely and accurately.
  • Gather reports, labs, studies, or other data pertinent to upcoming patient appointments.
  • Place order for labs and other studies as appropriate, timely and accurately.
  • Answers all patient questions and requests timely and appropriately.
  • Fax and copy necessary information to insurance companies, other provider offices and other facilities as necessary.
  • Respond to patient pharmacy requests in collaboration with providers.
  • Collect and prepare blood samples for processing.
  • Maximize use of free time between patient and other tasks to clean and stock rooms, copy documents and filing.
  • Obtain provider or patient signatures on appropriate documents.
  • Assist with medical and office supplies inventory and or ordering.
  • Follow the identified dress code and safety protocols to ensure patient and employee safety.
  • Maintains and practices professional boundaries with all patient interactions.
  • Select gauge needles and preparing veins or fingers for blood drawing.
  • Extract blood from patients through venipuncture or fingerstick.
  • Analyze blood specimens using the correct testing equipment, when necessary.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patients.
  • Clean, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment used in the drawing and testing of blood specimens.
  • Order laboratory supplies, as needed.
  • Assist with front desk standard operating procedures, including co-pay collections, insurance verification, checking patients in and out, answering phones and booking appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including house calls for blood draws, electrocardiograms, injections, or procedures as ordered by clinic providers and medical director.
  • Assist in cleaning/disinfection of facility.
  • Review lab notifications and outstanding information requests from collaborating facilities and provides requested information as appropriate per ability and scope of practice.

Education and Experience:

Required: High school Diploma or GED

Preferred: College Courses for Medical Assistant Training


Certification and Licensure:

  • Required: Medical Assistant or Nursin
