Job Description

DomainTools is looking for a Systems Engineer that is passionate about infrastructure, automation, and growing on a dynamic engineering team. Come help us build tools and processes to accelerate the delivery of our security-focused SaaS services. We build on open source technologies and operate services in both public- and private-cloud environments to serve a customer base that includes 40% of the Fortune 100.

Location: Remote - US

Compensation: $50,000 - $68,000 USD


Job Responsibilities:

  • Build and operate Linux-based systems in both public cloud and colocation environments
  • Manage the lifecycle of open-source and custom services that power all aspects of our business, including authentication, logging, metrics, code repos, secrets management, and more
  • Accelerate our ability to deploy infrastructure safely and reliably via automation and delivery pipelines
  • Modernize legacy services by redeploying as containers or new virtual machines
  • Monitor systems and resolve operational issues with our products and services
  • Assist senior engineers with project-related tasks
  • Help the team handle unplanned work; look for ways to automate and improve related workflows
  • Improve documentation by writing and refining runbooks
  • Work with other engineering teams to resolve problems and help deliver upgrades to services and infrastructure
  • Improve and refine logging, monitoring, metrics-gathering and visualization
  • Participate in an on-call rotation with fellow team members

Requirements

  • 1+ years experience managing Linux-based systems in an enterprise environment
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals
  • Experience automating manual processes with scripts, config management tools, and CI pipelines
  • Experience supporting customer-facing services (preferably a SaaS product)
  • Experience supporting virtualization and container platforms, building VMs/containers
  • Experience managing infrastructure in both public cloud and physical data center environments
  • Willing to dive into problems that are new, ambiguous, or complex
  • Able to deal with unplanned, ticket-based work and shift between multiple tasks depending on the priority of the day
  • Eager to learn and proactively make improvements where they are most needed
  • High team standards around communication, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Familiar with relational databases

  • DevOps: Ansible, Terraform, GitLab, Hashicorp Vault/Consul
  • Containers and orchestration: Docker/Podman, Kubernetes
  • Monitoring/metrics: Icinga/Nagios, Graphite, Grafana, Prometheus, CollectD, AWS cloudwatch
  • Logging: ELK, Splunk, Syslog, Journald
