Job Description

The Quality Engineer assists with the design, testing, and troubleshooting of company software by writing and executing test cases and test scenarios, documenting test results and best practices, and reporting on quality metrics. Also supports the software development team with analysis and debug of identified software faults. The results of the Quality Engineer’s work are used to influence the software design, product development, and release cycles. Project problem solving/decision making will be required.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement quality assurance test plans and test matrices.
  • Design and write manual test cases and scenarios to fully test the acceptance criteria (requirements).
  • Configure and prepare the test environment to support SQA testing.
  • Prepare, execute, and document software component testing.
  • Perform integration, functional, and non-functional testing based on component level.
  • Perform other testing activities including system, usability, and performance testing.
  • Identify and design test cases for edge case and negative test scenarios.
  • Analyze, reproduce, and report component defects and special situations.
  • Provide bug reports to the development engineers and work directly with development engineers to troubleshoot potential problem areas.
  • Assist in the development of automation of recurring test cases using a test scripting tool.
  • Participate in review activities (project plans, requirements, design, and test case) to assume joint responsibility with other team members on quality and schedule.
  • Participate in the estimation and planning of QA efforts.
  • Research functionality and implementation of current and future testing techniques and technologies
  • Participate in departmental improvement and innovation processes to deliver projects that enhance project/department performance and enable positive business results by decreasing rework related to released software.
  • Develop the full spectrum of SQA documents including test plans, test cases, build configuration, and release documents. Assist the engineering staff in clarifying requests for software changes and understand the reported problems.
  • Ensure that all above activities are conducted consistently and in accordance with company policies and procedures.


Competencies: Knowledge of GitLab, PHP, XML, JavaScript, and UNIX and/or Linux based systems associated command line tools e.g. Bash. Ability to architect solutions that are in line with company goals and departmental guidelines; to balance workloads and determine priorities. Willingness to assume responsibilities and follow through while using good judgment.

Requirements


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, computer science, or other related engineering discipline or additional 4 years of work experience in lieu of degree.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a Software Quality Assurance (SQA) role performing software testing and test methodologies (developing test cases, test procedures, test scripts and test reports and doing the "hands on" implementation of those plans).
  • Knowledgeable of software quality assurance principles and demonstrated ability to carry out these concepts.
  • Knowledgeable of the end-to-end software development lifecycle and process and methodologies related to integration, system, and regression testing during the software development life-cycle (SDLC).
