Job Description

The Director of Education amp; Infection Control is responsible for the administration of the Infection Prevention and Control Program, which includes the identification, investigation, reporting, prevention, education, and control of nosocomial infections among patients and personnel. Nurse Educator delivers and provides ongoing training and mentoring for all employees. Specifically ensuring that new employees are oriented to hospital policies and procedures and adequately train the employees in their respective departments, and all employees are competent and receive ongoing training and education that meets regulatory requirements.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees the hospital’s infection control program ensuring that standards of care pertaining to infection control are developed and maintained per legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Inspects facility/departments and reviews processes to identify infection control issues.
  • Prepares reports, action plans, trains, and monitors ongoing compliance with infection control standards.
  • Maintains current knowledge of local, state, Joint Commission, and CDC regulatory requirements.
  • Review and evaluate training and apprenticeship programs for compliance with CMS, JCAHO, and other regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for the hospital vaccination and TB program to include new hire, annual, seasonal, and other vaccination administration and record-keeping to demonstrate compliance to infection control policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Gathering and analyzing infection data to make evidence-based decisions
  • Educating staff on infection prevention protocols.
  • Isolating and treating infected individuals to contain the spread of infectious diseases
  • Assisting with the development of action plans in case of a community or hospital outbreak to minimize the potentially devastating impact.
  • Collaborating with government agencies such as the CDC to ensure that infection control practices are implemented and enforced.
  • Public Health Emergency-Related Activities:
  • COVID-19 weekly entry to US Department of Health and Human Services teletracking site
  • COVID-19 weekly facility tracker submission to corporate partners
  • COVID-19 tracking for Dallas County Health Department
  • Contact tracing on person(s) with reported positive results
  • For staff members, follow-up calls on suspected COVID-19 infections working with HR and PI departments in the administration of the employee return to work program
  • Supports the organization's strategic business development efforts.
  • Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.
  • Works closely with Human Resources to deliver and track new hire and ongoing training programs that ensure that all employees are able to demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and competencies.
  • Deploy a wide variety of training methods
  • Manages online training software ensuring all employees completed required training to stay compliant with regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor and evaluate training program’s effectiveness, success and ROI periodically and report on them
  • Provide opportunities for ongoing development
  • Resolve any specific problems and tailor programs as necessary
  • Maintain a keen understanding of training trends, developments, and best practices
  • Participates in hospital committees and reports relevant information to hospital staff.
  • Maintains training records and documentation to include online systems.
  • Must have proficient computer skills to manage training database, run and create reports in various formats including Excel.
  • Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
  • Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.

Requirements

Education - Bachelor's degree required. BA/BS or Master's degree in Health-related field preferred.

Experience 3-5 years experience as a Nurse in a health care setting required. Experience in acute psychiatric care and staff education is preferred.

Required Licenses

  • Valid Texas RN license in good standing required. Must be 21 years old or older.
  • Must obtain and maintain BLS CPR certification as well as successful completion of Management of Assaultive Behavior training including restraint and seclusion policies prior to assuming patient care responsibility.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control is highly desired. If not certified, the role will be supervised by a certified Infection Preventio
