We are seeking an Indirect Tax Accountant to join MOO's Finance team for a one year maternity cover. The successful candidate will be MOO's central point of contact for indirect taxes and be responsible for ensuring our sales tax and GST/HST obligations are met. In addition, you will work closely with the Finance, Sales and Customer Service teams to ensure customer sales tax refunds are processed in a timely manner.
The Finance team today consists of a team of sixteen spread between our UK (London) and US (Rhode Island and Massachusetts) locations. The team's primary function is to provide financial guidance and support to all areas of the business. As a team, we are responsible for all internal and external finance reporting, cash management, company taxes, revenue collections, supplier maintenance and payroll.
The successful candidate will have prior knowledge of US sales tax and Canadian GST and experience with filing electronic returns. You will be highly organized and have the ability to manage strict tax filing deadlines and high volumes of sales tax refund requests from customers, coupled with excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, to effectively and professionally communicate with the wider team, management, customers and tax authorities.Responsibilities
  • Manage Sales Tax Returns
  • Preparing data for Avalara Filing, Reconciling and Accruing Sales Tax GL
  • Update and maintain sales tax certificates in CertCapture (Avalara)
  • Manage and prepare personal property tax rendition for local governement
  • Manage and prepare Canada GST/HST returns on a quarterly basis
  • Keep up-to-date and informed on any state sales tax exemption requirements
  • Work closely with the Finance, Sales, and Customer Service teams to refund sales tax to exempt and resale customers
  • Process sales tax refunds
  • Ad-hoc projects and tax audits
About You
  • Prior knowledge of US Sales Tax is a must
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Must be organised and have the ability to prioritize
  • Self-motivated and a team player
  • Keenness to drive efficiencies
Nice to Haves
  • Prior experience with Avalara and/or Netsuite a plus
