What You'll Do

As a Mattson Associate Principal Scientist you'll be working on:

Product Development

  • Work independently to lead the development of new products across multiple product categories and throughout all phases of product development from initial bench development to commercial launch, while considering critical technical issues such as: food safety, food stability, shelf-life, scalability, cost, nutritional and ingredient guidelines, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in benchtop processes across a range of product categories and pro-actively works with Commercialization Managers to develop scale up processes. Assist with commercialization trials, as needed.
  • Understand culinary principles and apply them to technical development.
  • Write technical and project status reports, protocols, finished product specifications, plant trial protocol/summary documents, shelf life studies, etc.
  • As an Associate Principal Scientist you must utilize your experience and problem solving skills to solve complex technical challenges related to the development, manufacturing, and/or improvement of food products and processes and make appropriate technical recommendations.
  • Conduct and Interpret basic analytical testing in support of product development.
  • Work with cross functional teams that include our clients, client managers, food scientists and contract manufacturers. Lead technical communication on project plans and updates manager, client managers and clients.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
  • Provide guidance, coaching and training to other employees within the job function.
  • Proactively seek out new creative solutions when addressing new project challenges (e.g. sourcing new ingredients, participating in brainstorming sessions, identifying new technology).


Requirements

About You

  • B.S. or M.S, or PhD in Food Science or related discipline
  • 13+ years of food and/or beverage product development with commercialization experience, ideally with experience in new product development and protein chemistry (plant and animal based)
  • Extrusion experience in the food space is a plus
  • Experience with heavy equipment and/or work experience in a lab environment
  • Demonstration of leadership ability through organization of small teams or projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross functional teams
  • Willing to travel domestically and occasionally internationally as required by client and project needs
  • Must be a person of high integrity and commitment and possess a strong work ethic
  • Ability to lift 30 to 40 lb.

Salary Range $104,000 - $156,000
