Job Description

The Customs Transport Manager takes full responsibility for ensuring that every shipment from Christie Lites is transported safely and efficiently across borders, while strictly adhering to all necessary regulations. Whether it's coordinating with logistics teams, navigating through complex customs procedures, or ensuring timely delivery, making sure every step necessary is taken to make sure that the shipment arrives at its destination smoothly and hassle-free.

Responsibilities

1. Follows processes and procedures outlined in the customs flowchart.

This involves following the processes and details on the flowcharts without exception, questioning your supervisor on items which need further clarification or are not understandable, and notifying your supervisor of any suggested changes. Using the "domestic and cross-border shipping process and procedures" as outlined in the flowcharts, ensuring the flowchart version is up-to-date by replacing old flowcharts with new updates.

2. Reviews incoming customs requests.

This includes carefully reviewing each request, declining requests for items that are not relevant to their department, confirming receipt of the request, and collecting any missing details before proceeding with the review process.

3. Creates cross-border paperwork.

This includes filling out relevant commercial invoices, TIB, and ATA Carnet paperwork, along with other necessary paperwork for shipments that are crossing the border. In instances where tariff codes are missing from Nexus, the manager is tasked with obtaining them for the relevant countries. The manager is also responsible for obtaining the Country of Origin for gear with any missing COO information in Nexus. Additionally, the manager must ensure that bond paperwork is opened and closed according to custom guidelines and that the shipment will not exceed cross-border limits unless approval is provided by VPs. Furthermore, the manager is responsible for checking with the VP on any duty rates that seem high to confirm whether the shipment should proceed before completing the paperwork.

4. Handles customs relationships.

This includes working closely with a broker to ensure that the proper HS codes are used. They also review customs invoices to make sure that the appropriate tariff rates have been applied. If there are any customs clearance issues, the Customs Transportation Manager will work with the broker to resolve them. To ensure consistency across all CL paperwork, they store MISC HS codes in Nexus.

5. Approves all customs invoices.

This includes reviewing all customs invoices to ensure proper costing and approvals have been obtained prior to issuing payments. In addition, the manager approves invoices for the AP department and ensures that costs are added to the appropriate orders when necessary. This ensures that all customs-related payments are made accurately and efficiently and that all orders are properly documented.

6. Stores all bonds/tracks bond documents.

This includes carefully keeping track of all bonds to ensure that they are closed within their allotted 12-hour period. They also take responsibility for opening and closing all Carnets handled by Christie Lites, making sure that all necessary documentation is properly stored and organized. This attention to detail helps to ensure that all customs procedures are handled smoothly and efficiently and that all shipments are processed quickly and accurately.
