Job Description

The Managing Director of Research, Evaluation, and Convening is accountable for the quality, accuracy, and relevance of the Colorado Health Institute (CHI)’s work. In addition to maintaining the organization’s reputation for high-quality work products, this position is also responsible for ensuring that CHI’s work is aligned with and supports its mission, vision, and values. This role reports to the CEO and is a member of the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities
The Managing Director of Research, Evaluation, and Convening’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Set vision for content and project creation.

  • Ensure CHI’s research, evaluation, and convening efforts address pressing and relevant issues facing its stakeholders and partners.
  • Lead key initiatives and activities, including the Colorado Health Access Survey, and identify opportunities to increase their utility, reach, and sustainability.
  • Determine or advise on the framing, approach, and methods for key initiatives, activities, and projects.
  • Monitor local, state, regional, and federal trends to identify new or emerging issues that CHI is uniquely positioned to address.
  • Participate in developing appropriate responses to emerging issues, including policy and data analysis, written summaries, publications, and convening activities.
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to evaluate and ensure CHI’s projects align with and enhance its value.

Ensure high-quality, accurate products and deliverables.

  • Monitor all quality-control activities and develop methods for continuous quality improvement.
  • Establish and oversee ongoing client and partner feedback processes.
  • Lead service recovery efforts when required, including establishing feedback cycles and engaging with members of the senior leadership team and CEO as needed.

Oversee team development and capacity.

  • Ensure that project teams develop sound approaches and methods, detailed workplans, and timely debriefs. Oversee the development of standardized processes when appropriate.
  • Ensure the establishment of a learning culture, including identifying relevant and emerging professional development topics and skill-building for individuals and the team.
  • Balance project assignments and activities with team members’ experience, skills, and capacity.
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to establish proactive hiring processes based on projected workflows, current and future skill needs, and organizational goals.

Support organizational growth.

  • Work with the senior leadership team and CEO to implement CHI’s strategic plan, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI-B) goals.
  • Establish annual goals with quarterly milestones to advance CHI’s mission.
  • Supports team members and advances organizational goals by leading with cultural competence, humility, and responsiveness through personal actions and actively supports and cultivates culturally responsive leadership across the organization.
  • Assist in strategic development and execution of CHI’s short- and long-range planning and programmatic activities.
  • Support senior leadership and CEO in building and maintaining strong relationships with public and private organizations and individuals.
  • Ensure all team members understand the organization’s approach to growth and sustainability.
  • Maintain and share professional knowledge through education, networking, events, and presentations.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills of fellow team members using empathy, coaching, skill-building, and mentoring techniques.
  • Support internal professional development and manage employment issues as needed.
