Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Osceola Library System is seeking a full-time Marketing and Outreach Specialist. The position is based at the Hart Memorial Central Library in Kissimmee, Florida, but provides support for the entire system.


The Marketing and Outreach Specialist is a member of the Graphics and Marketing team and collaborates with Youth Services, Adult Services, Collection Services, and Circulation Services to engage and inform the community about Library resources and services. The successful candidate will possess an outgoing nature with excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills, a creative eye for emerging trends and best practices, confidently work well independently or with groups, and be a passionate advocate for libraries.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Develop and deliver outreach opportunities with government and community organizations to promote Library services, resources, and programs.
  • Maintain and cultivate contacts to advance Library outreach opportunities.
  • Work across teams to coordinate marketing efforts and outreaches; maintain an outreach schedule with details about location and staffing; coordinate additional or alternative staffing for outreach events when needed.
  • Represent and promote the Library at community outreach events and meetings as a Library ambassador. Create a fun and engaging environment and convey the Library’s mission and purpose.
  • Transport, set up, and tear down marketing and outreach displays.
  • Maintain an inventory of outreach equipment and materials; make suggestions for additional equipment, supplies, and informational materials to enhance the quality of marketing and outreach displays.
  • Track metrics for outreach event attendance and marketing performance and efforts, including social media, in order to create and present marketing reports.
  • Maintain outreach collections at partner locations such as care facilities, County Courthouse, and Historical Society.
  • Research successful marketing campaigns; provide suggestions based on data and trends for adjustments to improve marketing efforts.
  • Monitor the communications of other community and government organizations to stay informed of marketing trends, outreach opportunities, and resources. Support special projects with established community partners.
  • Maintain a list of free promotional channels such as online calendars, partner newsletters, etc. Distribute Library information via these channels.
  • Proofread marketing materials and other related documents for accuracy and completeness in accordance with the Library’s Content Style Guide.
  • Compose press releases for distribution to local news outlets.
  • Participate in creating engaging content for the Library’s social media channels.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required. Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field; or equivalent professional experience with degree or equivalent experience in marketing and communications highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated work experience in the communications and/or marketing fields preferred.
  • Top notch communicator, with excellent writing, editing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate marketing data and trends, and prepare recommendations based on information collected.
  • Familiarity with all social media channels; experience with the creation and production of social media content.
  • Experience with computer systems and software including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management efficiency, and careful attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of or experience in public libraries a plus.
  • Team player with ability to develop and maintain strong work relationships.
  • A positive, optimistic and supportive attitude are essential to the position.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Spanish-speaking a plus.
  • Must have a valid Drivers License to be able to drive company vehicle

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to 35 pounds such as pop up tents, folding tables, boxes of books, etc. Must be able to stand or sit for long periods and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
