Job Description

Katherine Delmar Burke School is an independent K-8 gender-inclusive all-girls’ school located on a 3.5-acre campus in San Francisco. Burke’s is one of California’s leading elementary schools with over a 100-year tradition of educational excellence. The school combines strong academic and co-curricular programs with an emphasis on project-based learning and personal growth in a diverse and inclusive community. We emphasize the development of fundamental and higher-level critical thinking skills in an atmosphere of creativity, exploration, academic rigor, and joyful learning.

Position Description:

Burke’s seeks a music lesson instructor in our after-school program, offering private piano lessons to individual students Grades 1-8. First and foremost, we hope to introduce and nurture a joyful relationship with piano for our students, setting them up for a life-long love of music. Our after-school piano instructors meet the child where they are, whether they are beginners or developing musicians. Instructors may draw on classical training or music choices that reflect student interests. While teaching theory and technique, our instructors emphasize the importance of fun and the student-teacher relationship. We love to welcome professional, practicing musicians to our program and can offer flexibility in regard to performances and tours.

Job Responsibilities include:

- Reliably teach individual piano lessons to students on a weekly basis (Wednesdays only, 3:30-6:00pm) on dates and times agreed upon in advance.

- Check-in regularly with parents concerning student progress and any needs or recommendations you have for the child at home

- Offer recitals as planned by the Director of After School Programs

• Communication:

- Effective communication with the Director of After School Programs and After School staff.

- Timely and supportive communication with students, parents, and caregivers to foster a strong partnership with families
