UCS’s Climate and Energy Program

The Senior Federal Campaign Coordinator will work to advance the goals of UCS’s Climate Resilience and Power Ahead Campaigns by building and leveraging people power and UCS analyses in support of just and equitable federal policy. Responsibilities include: conceiving, developing, and implementing outreach and organizing plans and projects to advance federal legislative and regulatory campaign goals; representing UCS in coalitions and building relationships with allied constituencies; meaningfully engaging UCS supporters and particularly Science Network members to achieve the campaign goals; contributing to and leveraging high-level analysis and technical expertise with decision makers and ensuring visibility with targeted constituencies; and supporting opportunities for UCS staff and stakeholders to meet and communicate with federal policy makers. This position works with two campaigns, with 75% of the time focused on the Climate Resilience campaign and 25% on the Power Ahead (clean energy) campaign.

The Position

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

Plan, manage and implement campaign, policy, and advocacy projects.

  • Working closely with Climate amp; Energy (Camp;E) program government affairs and campaign teams, coordinate outreach activities across the program’s campaigns and with other UCS offices in support of federal policy priorities.
  • Develop and maintain communications and tracking systems to ensure effective coordination.
  • Analyze coalition platforms and make recommendations to Camp;E policy and legislative staff.
  • Manage the internal and external components of legislative days and other events, convenings, and workshops that highlight climate resilience and/or energy issues. Manage and delegate logistical tasks and the creation of materials for events.
  • Represent UCS in national coalitions as needed and assist in developing coalition strategy and outreach efforts. Identify and cultivate new partners for UCS’s campaign work among racial equity and climate justice groups. Maintain awareness of strategic opportunities in allied efforts that intersect with UCS’s campaigns.
  • Once per quarter, convene a cross-campaign team to allocate budget resources for shared federal legislative, regulatory and organizing goals. Formulate proposals and undertake due diligence for partner support and other expenditures.

Devise and implement strategies to expand, engage, and mobilize UCS supporters and members of the UCS science network to coordinate federal climate resilience and renewable energy policy.

  • Identify, recruit, train, and deploy expert scientists, engineers, health professionals, emergency preparedness specialists, climate resilience experts, etc. Engage UCS activists, experts, local officials, and other opinion leaders in strategic communications and/or constituent advocacy at the federal level.
  • Manage, initiate, and/or coordinate high-level convenings, conferences, and symposia in support of campaign goals. Serve as a UCS spokesperson at events as needed to increase UCS’s presence and attract new supporters/volunteer
