UCS’s Food amp; Environment Program

The Position

Working with multi-disciplinary teams across UCS and the Food and Environment program (Famp;E), the Outreach Coordinator works to conceive, design, coordinate, and implement outreach plans and projects in support of Famp;E’s goal of transforming our food and agricultural system into one that is healthy, just, and sustainable. Responsibilities include leading and participating in strategic outreach and organizing efforts to influence public policy, corporate, and consumer decisions; engaging UCS supporters, experts, and coalition partners in Famp;E’s issues and campaigns; expanding and mobilizing UCS networks of experts and grass tops leaders; and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the Famp;E program and its campaigns and projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

Lead strategic outreach and organizing efforts to advance Food and Environment campaign goals and outcomes, ensuring that racial equity and social justice are fundamental considerations in this work.

· With the Campaign Manager, conceive, develop, and implement outreach strategies that engage public constituencies and influence opinion leaders, decision makers, and elected officials, including strong promotion of major UCS analytic and communications products.

· Organize and participate in a range of educational, training, and engagement events for target constituencies, experts, and decision makers, and ensure events align with campaign and programmatic goals and outcomes.

· Facilitate the program’s strategic and timely response to emerging campaign developments and rapid response opportunities, involving supporters and experts through online and offline actions as possible and appropriate.

· Track effectiveness of outreach activities/projects and maintain and update campaign-related databases, documents, and other resources.

· Represent UCS and the program in coalition spaces and at external conferences and events to maintain and cultivate relationships with UCS partners, promote UCS and Famp;E, and recruit new experts and partner organizations to join our work.

Expand, engage, and mobilize a diverse set of experts and grass tops leaders.

· Conduct strategic outreach and high-level engagement of key constituencies, including food and agriculture experts, relevant business leaders, and leaders and representatives of BIPOC and other affected communities.

· Identify meaningful ways to engage relevant experts, recruit for the UCS Science Network, and prioritize outreach to experts from diverse backgrounds, and develop and execute plans to maintain and deepen their participation within Famp;E campaigns.

· Recruit and train Science Network members interested in organizing local constituencies for concerted action campaigns in target states and districts.
