Job Description

Founded in 2003, Making A Difference Foundation (MADF) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to make a difference in the lives of others, one person at a time, by helping them acquire the most basic human needs: food, housing, encouragement, and opportunity.

In keeping with that mission, our agency provides a workforce training and re-entry program for people coming out of the correctional system. This program provides mentoring, coaching, re-entry services, and workforce training at out Eloise’s Cooking Pot Food Bank’s warehouse, which gives them job experience without the typical stigma and issues that come from having a criminal record and trying to obtain employment. Besides working with formerly incarcerated adults, this program also works with at-risk youth during the summer. The program keeps them busy, out of trouble, and learning new skills that they can take with them into the future job market when they are done with school. It also provides quality adult mentoring and self-esteem building.

In 2024, we will be spinning the youth portion of the program into more in-depth services for at-risk BIPOC youth. We will continue to provide adult mentoring, self-esteem building, and connection to other needed services, but we will also move into teaching leadership skills and providing entrepreneurship opportunities as it relates to food systems and agriculture.

Specifically, young people ages 16 to 21 will have the opportunity to learn about our local food systems from a lens of self-reliance and Black food sovereignty. Not only will the youth get to engage in nutrition education classes that focus on empowering them to identify and make healthy food choices even when faced with limited options, but they will also gain entrepreneurial skills through the development, marketing, and sale of their own value-added culturally relevant food products. The youth will work with partner farmers who are a part of MADF’s BIPOC Farmers’ HUB to learn growing skills like hydroponics and urban farming methods, as well as how to set up an agricultural micro business. This opportunity gives these youth a purpose and a sense of success they can use to improve their lives and futures.
