Community Relations Specialist

Industry: Essential community services

Location: Broward County, FL (50-75% travel)

Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours per week, with flexibility to include evenings and weekends as necessary

Compensation: $22.84 hourly wage (~$47,500 annually) plus generous benefits package (see below)

Summary of Qualifications:

  • Four (4)+ years of combined education and work experience in a relevant field (social services, child growth and development, psychology, or work pertaining to behavioral health and special needs system of care)
  • Ability to pass a level two (2) DCF background screening and a drug test
  • Reliable transportation and ability to regularly travel around Broward County and occasionally further
  • Flexible schedule that allows for evening and weekend work hours as needed to attend community events/trainings

About us: 211 Broward is a free, anonymous, 24-hour helpline offering listening support, information, referral, and crisis services. We provide every caller with a place to turn to when they need answers to life’s challenges--big or small--by connecting them with nearly 3,800 programs and services that are available in their area.

About this position: We are seeking an organized, compassionate, and driven individual to join our team as a Community Relations Specialist. This person will become the face of 211 Youth and Family Services (the Special Needs Connections Helpline, the INFOline, the Youth Services programs, Teenspace, and 988) by presenting our vision, mission, and values to the community through regular outreach events. Examples include giving presentations, attending fairs, maintaining 211's social media presence, and distributing goods and information to promote knowledge of 211 locally. This position involves regular travel within the Broward County community in order to increase brand awareness among individuals in Broward County schools, youth organizations, social clubs, and recreation centers.

Essential Tasks of the Community Relations Specialist:

  • Effectively present and deliver 211 Broward's vision, mission, and values to the community
  • Represent 211 Youth and Family Services Programs in the community, particularly among the Special Needs and Behavioral Health provider network
  • Schedule and conduct regular outreach activities (presentations, fairs, social media, and distributions) with the community, providers, and key stakeholders that result in increased awareness about 211
  • Assist in developing social media outreach and marketing materials and efforts to educate the public on services offered by 211
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with community providers serving the youth population, such as Broward Schools, youth organizations, groups, clubs, recreation centers, physicians offices, private companies, and others
  • Collaborate with supervisor to create an annual outreach plan that focuses on informing the community about the importance of connecting children with the services they need
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant community meetings (e.g., SNAC)
  • Conduct satisfaction surveys to assess and demonstrate the effectiveness of presentations
  • Assist in coordinating 211 special events, including partner and donor activities
  • Attend a minimum of 7 annual in-service training sessions and additional workshops/seminars related to program and professional development as requested
  • Monitor outreach activities through measurable outcome indicators in order to contribute to the development of the program's goals and outcomes
  • Prepare statistics, reports, success stories, and other information as needed for reporting and grant compliance
  • Research other 211 Call Centers to ensure that 211 Broward remains current with community relations and outreach efforts
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with key community leaders as well as appointed and elected officials
  • Report updated community resource information to the 211 Database Services Team
