This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty Diesel Technology who will be all-in on our mission and who will perform duties primarily related to the instruction of courses in assigned disciplines. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, online courses, or tech supported classes, and in immediate preparation for respective courses; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; and preparing teaching materials. This position will support growth in the Diesel Tech Program at the TDCJ Clements Unit.

This position is filled on an as need basis, contingent upon institutional needs.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Associate Degree in Diesel Technology or ASE Certified T4 (Brakes), T6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems), T8 (Preventive maintenance Inspection (PMI).

Preferred: T1 (Gasoline), T2 (Diesel Engines), T3 (Drivetrain), T5 (Suspension and Steering), T7 (Heating, Ventilation and AC).

EXPERIENCE

Required: Minimum three (3) years as a diesel technician.

Preferred: Previous post-secondary teaching experience.

JOB DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach Diesel Technology utilizing appropriate and engaging instructional methods and techniques.
  • Create engaging lesson plans that promote student involvement and application of the material.
  • Submit college reports and forms in a timely manner.
  • Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
  • Meet with and advise students before/after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
  • Participate in course and curriculum development, revision and evaluation.
  • Design and implement assessments to measure student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance and academic performance.
  • Perform effective teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.
  • Plan, develop and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS amp; ABILITIES
  • Good oral and written command of the English language and grammar is required.
  • Ability to understand and apply learner-centered and high impact instructional methods.
  • Skills in computer operation.
  • Ability to work under stress, independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain regular communication with students and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain competence in the use of instructional technology.
  • Ability to demonstrate competence in his/her teaching field and related technologies.
  • Ability to ensure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
  • Ability to teach off-campus, dual credit, online, and tech supported courses as required.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
