Operates any commercial vehicle with hazardous material classification including vehicles 26,001 pounds or greater in GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Responsible for accurate delivery, documentation and record keeping of explosive materials. While on the jobsite, operates the bulk truck efficiently and productively while loading the shot.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for correct calibration of truck and accurate/effective mixture of materials being loaded into drill holes.
- Maintains proper documentation and record keeping of materials loaded on, delivered to, and used during operation of truck.
- Loads tanks on truck accurately and with appropriate material.
- Communicates with Blasters for accurate delivery and application of emulsion.
- Maintains a high level of safety on the job site, off the job site and on all public roads, by observing applicable laws and regulations of appropriate jurisdictions and Trinity Drilling amp; Blasting rules and procedures. Includes turning in required documents in a timely manner (i.e. Drivers’ log for hours of service, stone tickets and/or any other documents/reports that may be required). Also, maintain their driver logs daily through an ELD (electronic logging device) and ensuring they are correct.
- Ensures that safety and emergency equipment is in good working order by doing pre and post trips.
- Operates vehicle with complete control in all directions including backing truck and trailer into confined spaces and on rough or soft surfaces. Maintains safe speed for the current driving conditions.
- Knows the height and the capacity of the truck and gear mechanisms.
- Attaches or detaches ancillary parts and equipment to vehicles.
- Must be observant of traffic on and off the road; observes the position of people, structures and equipment on the work site and is extremely careful to avoid injury or damage.
- Observes and is alert to driving hazards on and off the road. Adjusts driving for various conditions such as fog, rain, snow, ice, extreme heat and cold.
- Understands and practices accident prevention procedures.
- Follows appropriate DOT regulations for hazardous materials.
- Keeps vehicles and equipment clean.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Must possess and maintain a Class "A" or B Commercial Driver's License in good standing with hazardous materials, tanker, and air brakes endorsements.
- One to two years of experience is preferred.
