This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty Social Work who will be all-in on our mission and who willperform duties primarily related to the instruction of courses in assigned disciplines. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, online courses, or tech supported classes, and in immediate preparation for respective courses; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; and preparing teaching materials.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required:Master's degree in Social Work or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred: Previous post-secondary teaching experience.

• Teach assigned course(s) utilizing appropriate and engaging instructional methods and techniques.
• Create engaging lesson plans that promote student involvement and application of the material.
• Create a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
• Meet with and advise students before/after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
• Evaluate students to measure their progress.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
• Participate in course and curriculum development, revision and evaluation.
• Perform effective teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.
• Plan, develop and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.

• Good oral and written command of the English language and grammar is required.
• Ability to understand and apply learner-centered and high impact instructional methods.
• Skills in computer operation.
• Ability to work under stress, independently and as a team member.
• Ability to educate themselves regarding College policies.
• Ability to maintain regular communication with students and provide constructive feedback to students.
• Ability to demonstrate and maintain competence in the use of instructional technology.
• Ability to demonstrate competence in his/her teaching field and related technologies.
• Ability to ensure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
• Ability to teach day and/or evening courses as required.
• Ability to teach off-campus, dual credit, online, and tech supported courses as required.
• Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
