Job Summary: Under the guidelines of the UW manager of M/I Financial, assists with organizing and managing the daily activities of the underwriting department. In conjunction with manager and subordinates, researches, reviews and implements underwriting guidelines, mortgage loan programs, and Company underwriting, policies in accordance with underwriting guidelines and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises underwriting department staff via scheduling AUS rotation and assigning individual files when needed.
  • Upholds underwriting philosophy to be used for Company underwriting guidelines.
  • Assists in training and developing underwriting personnel through research and implementation of underwriting guidelines and regulations.
  • Reviews escalation requests, dealing with what escalations they can and moving others up the chain of command.
  • Researches, organizes, and composes underwriting guidelines to help UW Department guidelines stay current.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and distributes updates and bulletins on current underwriting issues and underwriting guideline manuals.

Requirements

Minimum Education Experience: Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent in specialized training from a two-year college or technical school combined with a minimum of five years related experience and/or training; thorough knowledge and understanding of underwriting terminology and guidelines. Direct endorsement (DE) designation, Certification of Delegated Underwriter preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to interpret, analyze and evaluate given information relevant to underwriting guidelines and regulations; customer-service oriented with ability to handle difficult situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with a variety of people inside and outside of the organization.
  • Persuasive attitude with strong negotiation and organization skills; detail-oriented aptitude.

Work Conditions: Some weekend work may be required
