Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mental Health Worker will provide crisis intervention and crisis stabilization services to individuals in behavioral health emergencies. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of neighbors, staff, volunteers and all others on the Opportunity Center Campus, therapeutic care to adults, children, and adolescents who are in psychiatric crisis to intervene and stabilize behaviors. The MHW will divert individuals from unnecessary conflict; provide timely crisis intervention and crisis stabilization services; and provide referrals and linkages to short or long-term community behavioral health services.

The Mental Health Worker will build a trusting relationship with neighbors; develop partnerships with behavioral health service organizations; and, serve as a liaison for the neighbor to facilitate access to services while improving the quality of services offered by CitySquare Programs. They will round regularly with staff and provide weekly updates on activity related to CitySquare.

Requirements

Education: Must have High School diploma or GED

Experience:Three (3) years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Experience with highly vulnerable populations, preferred. Orientation to best practices in behavioral health services for vulnerable populations.

Licenses/Certifications: CPR Certified. LPC, QMHP, LCDC, LMCSW or LCSW preferred.

Additional Requirements: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance and reliable transportation. Must be able to work occasional over-time and flexible hours as requested. Must be able to read and write English, fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides care to neighbors in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and the therapeutic environment.

2. Utilizes crisis and/or de-escalation intervention practices, when necessary and appropriate, with the neighbor(s) whose behavior cannot be otherwise supported without such interventions.

3. Assesses crisis situations and determines the appropriate level of intervention required

4. Conducts regular updates and meetings through the appropriate venues and channels

5. Observes 1:1s and assists staff with therapeutic appropriate intervention for the individual

6. Interacts with individuals in a supportive, therapeutic manner;

7. Takes the lead and provides direction with increased flexibility during crisis and emergency situations

8. Debrief with staff after interventions

9. Works with other members of a multi-disciplinary team in leading milieu activities such as current events groups, community meetings, goals groups, fitness groups, activities of daily living groups, and/or recreational activities, as appropriate to the specified patient population.

10. Notify Staff on any potential patient problem for preventative interventions

11. Models appropriate techniques for the prevention and management of patient aggression to maintain safety

12. Completes comprehensive incident reports as necessitated

13. Documents neighbor observations, following prescribed procedures and standards. Maintains confidentiality of neighbor records.

14. Participates in the development and implementation of patient treatment programs.

15. Develop and maintains established institutional policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standard.

16. May provide liaison with neighbors, families of neighbors, or external facilities and agencies.

17. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
