Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting the operations and deployment of strategic projects globally. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the facility as assigned and or as necessary. In addition to the responsibilities below, the Project Engineer works under the Operations Manager performing routine and complex technical duties in project design, implementation and management of complex automation systems and technology integration to meet the intent of the project requirements. This includes providing detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, subcontractors and the field installation team.

Employees at this level will be expected to mentor all System Specialists at any level. The location of work for this position will primarily be in the continental US with the possibility of projects overseas.

  • Reviews specifications, drawings and estimates.
  • Resolves design issues through RFI's, field surveys and documentation materials tracking.
  • Participates in field startup using standard start up and checkout processes.
  • Graphic front end, human machine interface, page development.
  • Assists in job close out by providing final record drawings.
  • Designs software code at a basic level and hardware submittals of an intermediate level, or of an expert level with mentor support.
  • Design and configure technically complex Building Automation Systems as defined by the contract documents.
  • Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
  • May assist Sales with cost estimates.
  • Configure system database for reporting, alarming and monitoring of Building Automation Systems.
  • Design and develop panel layouts, network layouts, wiring diagrams per customer and/or company standards.
  • Select material including DDC modules, field sensing and control devices, dampers and valves to meet the project requirements, specifications, codes and customer standards.
  • Program DDC modules to meet exact sequence of operation.
  • Program and configure integration between multiple vendors using open and proprietary software.
  • Provide design assistance to internal team.
  • Maintain field documentation, and coordinate field markups from lower-level engineers.
  • Able to document, demonstrate and exercise systems for third party commissioning support and testing.
  • Provide project demonstration and training as required for customers.
  • Mentors and sets a good example for lower-level engineers and technologists.
  • Take part in solutions-based discussions with owners and project stakeholders both inside and outside the company.
  • Support a performance-based culture, both team and individual, to assure continuous improvement and alignment with enterprise vision, mission, and objectives.

Knowledge amp; Skills required:

  • BAS, FMS or SCADA product knowledge and automation vendor hardware knowledge required.
  • Intermediate understanding of HVAC, Electrical, access or other building or electronic control systems.
  • Intermediate understanding of BAS, FMS or SCADA software applications.
  • Ability to configures/debug computer and network problems.
  • Ability to use Multimeter, troubleshoot basic electric and electronic circuits including reading/interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams.
  • Prior experience supporting construction and field employee groups, including strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and self-initiative.
