Job Description

As a member of the company’s Corporate Operations Information Technology team, the Systems Administrator, IT Monitoring will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, deploying and maintaining monitoring technologies that add value to our internal stakeholders and improve organizational capabilities. In addition to effective technology and process management, the job requires strong interpersonal and collaboration abilities. Candidate must have the ability to operate independently and works well in a team environment working on projects and troubleshooting outage alerting. We value individuals who dive into technology and have a thirst to learn. Most of job duties will be to lead projects to upgrade and expand corporate monitoring environment while also providing operational support and tuning of existing tools.

Duties:

  • Team orientation taking lead on critical projects while working well as part of a group and providing technical expertise.
  • Serve as the primary administrator of all monitoring tools, both on premise and SaaS, such as Logic Monitor, Solar Winds, Splunk and other monitoring production environments.
  • Provide 8 x 5 support of the IT monitoring infrastructure environment. Build and maintain documentation for off-hours and on-call support.
  • Continuous monitoring alarms for all infrastructure related equipment.
  • Work as a member of IT team to provide day to day support on all monitoring related request fulfillment, incident response, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Assist deployment of new technologies or upgrade existing capabilities as assigned.
  • Assist to manage vendor relationships to identify sustainable strategic partnerships, manage costs, and verify contractual service-level agreements are delivered.
  • Create and update technical documentation to maintain an accurate system of record and provide departmental training materials for new systems and processes.
  • Participate in departmental budgeting and goal setting process to lay out long-term and short-term project priorities, identify new technologies to improve upon operational capabilities, and leveraging vendor relationships to secure competitive costs.
  • Changes in approved and scheduled maintenance windows (i.e. software upgrades, hardware replacement, migrations, etc.)
  • Occasional travel (5%) for onsite support, datacenter build-out/expansions, or for training as needed.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills amp; Abilities:

  • Must be able to work during normal business hours and assist with changes as necessary during maintenance windows as scheduled for nights and weekends. Hybrid work environment with a mix of in-office and remote work.
  • Some understanding of monitoring technologies in general. Some experience with specifically the following a plus: Logic Monitor, SolarWinds, Splunk.
  • Ability to learn new monitoring technologies. Assist with research, deployment, and tuning of new monitoring technologies.
  • Understanding of information technology and information security practices and trends.
  • Ability to run concurrent projects while maintaining day to day operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-departmental communication
  • Comfortable working independently and being able to make decisions that add value to the business without direction from above.
  • Ability to work in a high achievement environment with a strong work ethic.
  • Some understanding of server technologies (Windows Server, Linux Server)
  • Some understanding of Virtualization technologies (VMware)
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Some understanding of Storage technologies (EMC)
  • Some understanding of Server hardware technologies (Dell)
  • Some Understanding of LAN/WAN technologies, OSI Model.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis in Excel and Visio
  • A knack for grace under pressure and a sense of urgency that puts the customer first

Education and Experience:

  • College bachelor’s degree or trade schools preferred or equivalent work/life experience.
  • Minimum 4+ years IT experience with at least 1+ years systems background. Experience with monitoring tools a plus.
  • Professional level certifications are a plus.
