Job Description

We are looking for qualified individuals to join our Business Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group as associates. This position will be located in our Providence office. The ideal candidates should have minimum 4-6 years of previous experience as associates in general litigation.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities;
  • Capacity to quickly grasp new legal subjects as required;
  • Familiarity with federal and state court procedures, including drafting answers, motions, and routine filings;
  • Proficiency in managing hearings and depositions; and
  • Extensive experience in case management.

Essential Functions:

  • Deliver effective and dependable legal services to clients and supervising attorneys.
  • Conduct comprehensive factual and legal research and analysis for pleadings, memoranda, and other written documents.
  • Prepare pleadings and other case documents.
  • Participate in hearings throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
  • Efficiently complete assigned tasks.
  • Handle matters from initiation to final resolution.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate with clients and supervising attorneys.

Associates are routinely required to:

  • Conduct comprehensive factual and legal research and analysis for pleadings, memoranda, and other written documents.
  • Create drafts of pleadings and other pertinent case documents.
  • Appear in hearings.
  • Handle cases from start to finish with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate with clients and supervising attorneys.

Requirements

Juris Doctor. Qualified candidates must be and remain licensed to practice law and in good standing in Rhode Island. Must Also be (or willing to become) and remain licensed to practice law and in good standing in Massachusetts.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
    • Strong organizational and matter management abilities.
    • Capable of working professionally and collaboratively with Clients, Partners, Associates, and Support Staff.
    • Effective team player.
    • Quickly and adeptly learn new substantive legal topics.
    • Familiarity with and capability to prepare both basic and complex litigation documents.
    • Knowledge of federal and state court procedural rules and practices.
    • Expertise in clear and precise legal drafting.
    • Strong negotiation skills.

The expected base salary for candidates located in Rhode Island for this role is in the range of $270,000 - $320,000. The final base salary will be determined using several factors, such as the candidate's graduation year, years of experience, skills, qualifications, office location, and anticipated annual billable hour targets (either 1850 hours annually or 1950 hours annually).
