This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Director of Workforce Instruction and Learning Support - Continuing Education/Academic Innovation who will be all-in on our mission and who will lead efforts to transform curricula, instructional models, and professional development by working closely with the Senior Director to scale workforce programs. Key responsibilities include designing emerging skill offerings using learner-centered and competency-based course design, training educators on cutting-edge modalities, advancing partnerships, increasing student access/success, contributing to staff management, engaging industry experts, assisting with articulation alignment, and teaching stackable offerings. We seek strategic builders passionate about research-based, future-focused learning practices that proliferate workforce opportunities through flexible, skills-based education.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Master’s Degree

Preferred: Master’s Degree in Education or curriculum design.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Three (3) years of experience in curriculum design and teaching.

Preferred: One (1) year of working in higher education.

JOB DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support Senior Director of Academic Innovation providing direction for continuing education programming, academic innovations, and adult learning initiatives.
  • Develop and facilitate engaging training, professional development, and capacity-building programs for faculty and employer subject matter experts in competency-based learning models.
  • Onboard employer subject matter experts (SME) through comprehensive orientations, equipping SMEs with core competencies (e.g. course design, assessment, instructional technology).
  • Guide curriculum development, redesign, and implementation using a learner-centered lens across modalities like online, hybrid, and technology-integrated.
  • Oversee assessment of learning outcomes and lead continuous improvement efforts to advance student achievement and instructional quality.
  • Design systems and infrastructure to support growth in continuing education enrollment, competency attainment, and expansion of offerings.
  • Assist with industry BLCs to align programs to emerge skill demands and workforce opportunities using the BILT Framework.
  • Contribute leadership through conference presentations, scholarship, and committee involvement regionally and nationally.
  • Recruit, hire, develop, and evaluate talented instructional design and program management staff.
  • Train new workforce base learning instructional designer.
  • Research, adopt, and train others in emerging educational technologies and teaching methodologies.
  • Provide customer service to all internal, external customers, vendors, community leaders, etc.
  • Compose various reports/evaluations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS amp; ABILITIES
  • Ability to evaluate data and redesign.
  • Ability to teach within active competency-based degree programs as an embedded practitioner.
  • Ability to speak clearly and make effective presentations.
  • Current Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Drive Skills
  • Commitment to Educational Technology and Teaching Innovation: Effective Task Prioritization and Organizational Skills
  • Proficient Interpersonal, Verbal, and Written Communication Skills to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to make solid recommendations, have strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and work under pressure to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a commitment to discretion and confidentiality concerning sensitive information.
