Job Description

Bitsight’s mission is to enable trust in digital transactions. Together, we are transforming how the market

governs cybersecurity risk through Security Ratings. Bitsight Security Ratings are real-time, data-driven

measurements of cyber security performance that help companies, investors, insurers, government

agencies and regulators make informed, dynamic risk decisions impacting business results, financial

investments and national security.

Bitsight is transforming how companies manage information security risk with trusted, time-tested and

actionable security ratings. Founded in 2011, the company built its Security Ratings Platform to

continuously analyze vast amounts of external data on security issues and behaviors in order to help

organizations manage third party risk, underwrite cyber insurance policies, benchmark performance,

conduct Mamp;A due diligence and assess aggregate risk. Organizations worldwide, including six of the top

10 cyber insurers, 20% of Fortune 500 companies, and 3 of the top 5 investment banks use Bitsight’s

proven Security Ratings technology on a daily basis to make integral risk and business decisions. With

over 3,000 customers and the largest ecosystem of users and information, Bitsight is the most widely used

Security Ratings Service.

Overview of the Opportunity

An internship on the BitSight engineering team is a great way to learn about software

development in a fast paced, dynamic startup environment. This internship is fully remote but

you are welcome to come work in our Boston office.

Our team is working on multiple strategic efforts, all of them directly influencing our ability to grow as

a company. A few examples are:

  • Our core data processing engine processes tens of billions of records daily, combining data from over 150 unique data sources, on sensors deployed throughout the Internet. We are continually iterating on our data pipeline, in order to handle the ever-increasing volumes of data that it needs to process on a daily basis.
  • We are nearing the completion of a transition of our microservices into a Kubernetes environment. As part of this effort, we have begun to leverage Kubernetes to enable a serverless architecture for certain applications.
  • We are revamping our Web application to handle increased scale, both in data and number of users, due to our increasingly global user base.

We continue to introduce enhancements, significant new features and entirely new products, by finding

innovative, new insights in the rich sea of data we ingest. We are looking for talented interns who are

hungry to learn. We value people with the computer science fundamentals to use a variety of technologies

amp; languages and pick up new ones when needed. After an introductory period where a mentor will

introduce you to our technologies, standard development practices, and code base, you’ll work on a small,

cross-functional Agile team to design amp; ship features and evolve our infrastructure. You’ll do this in

development amp; production environments that use technologies such as Python (Flask/Django), Java

(Spring Boot), Hadoop/Spark, and Javascript/React.js, all running in the cloud and delivered as a SaaS

application. You will be responsible for seeing your code all the way through to production, including

design, task breakdown and estimation, writing automated tests for your code, and soliciting feedback

from other developers via pull request.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of at least one modern language (Java/Python/Javascript).
  • Ability to pick up new concepts and ideas is more important than mastery of a specific language.
  • Results driven. You don’t want to just write code -- you want to ship it and have it used by customers.
  • Ability to work independently yet collaboratively in a dynamic startup environment.
  • Team-oriented.
  • You are inspired amp; motivated by the energy amp; ideas of teammates.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Git, Jira, Jenkins or Docker
  • Public cloud platforms such as AWS
  • Software development amp; delivery in a SaaS environment
  • Microservices architectures and relevant technologies
  • Cybersecurity or information security
