The store is owned by its members, who have a say in the store's operations and can receive discounts on purchases. In addition to its grocery offerings, the Hanover Community Coop also hosts events and workshops to educate the community about healthy eating and sustainable agriculture. Position Overview:

As a Store Manager, you will plan and direct the day-to-day operations of the store and ensure that it runs smoothly, efficiently to maximize sales and profitability. You will implement merchandising and inventory programs, forecast staffing needs, develop a recruiting strategy, as well as develop financial forecasts for store operating expenses, and capital budget requirements. You will be responsible for achieving or surpassing planned goals, both short and long-range while operating within the Hanover Consumer Cooperative's philosophy, policies, and procedures and the Co-op’s commitment to social responsibility in the wider community, environmental sustainability, and financial success.

This is a customer-service oriented position, where you will focus on improving customer service and creating store policies and marketing programs that will increase sales and grow the existing customer base. You will foster a positive environment and ensure customer needs are met and facilitate a work environment that is pleasant, healthful, safe, and free from hostility, intimidation, and harassment of any kind.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and customer service to customer and members in accordance with Co-op standards and resolve complaints in a timely manner.
  • Implement store merchandising plans and programs consistent with the Co-op’s mission, in coordination with the Merchandise Manager. Maintain outstanding store condition and visual merchandising standards.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on Co-op membership and the basics of the cooperative movement.
  • Plan work force, in conjunction with Department Managers, to achieve maximum customer service, productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and aesthetically pleasing store front and oversee department and employee compliance with SOPs and maintenance procedures. Ensure that the Co-op's policies and procedures are enforced and administered in a timely fashion and recommend any needed changes.
  • Establish and maintain positive relations with members, Board of Directors and staff and take a fair and open-minded approach to solving all issues that arise from staff or customers. Provide and assure a work environment that is pleasant, healthful, safe, and free from harassment.
  • Adhere to the standards described in the Manager’s Code of Conduct and serve as a role model for positive behavior and high performance.
  • Prepare annual budget to include financial forecasts for labor staffing, store operating expenses and capital budget requirements and implement budget in daily operations with quarterly review for adjustments.
  • Supervise and control variable expenses, equipment and inventory costs, and store assets.
  • Implement best practices to increase sales and profitability and provide input on how to correct under-performing areas through financial analysis.
  • Work with department managers to monitor and maintain suitable store inventory levels and assist with the development of new sales strategies.
  • Collaborate with department managers on managing employee schedules, conducting performance reviews, enforcing disciplinary actions, and responding to staff concerns in accordance with established personnel policies.
  • Responsible for hiring, developing, retention and performance management of Department Managers and effectively mentoring Assistant Store Manager.
  • Responsible for on-going staff’s training, and development to ensure the Co-op's goals are met. Conduct personnel performance appraisals to assess training needs and build career paths.
  • Develop and implement safety, sanitation and security procedures and programs in compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
