We are looking for a US Head of Compliance, to join us at INSHUR. You’ll be working on re-inventing insurance in exciting markets across the US. We are headquartered in New York City with a separate hub office in Westlake Village, Los Angeles.

We value in-person gatherings for workshops, events, and select meetings. The successful candidate may need to travel to our offices occasionally, but, like our product, we're flexible with the frequency.

Working closely with the Director of US Markets and the other key US operational and Group function leaders and teams you’ll be supported by (and reporting to) INSHUR’s Group General Counsel, and be joining a friendly legal amp; compliance team who believe in providing practical and compliant guidance and solutions to colleagues in a clear and collaborative manner.

What you'll do

As our US Head of Compliance, you will be a key business partner to the US management team, providing comprehensive regulatory compliance management to our operations and technical functions. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our organization remains in full compliance with all relevant US federal and state insurance regulations, particularly in the areas of Surplus Lines and Risk Purchasing Group related insurance programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive compliance programs for our US insurance operations, ensuring alignment with all applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Provide expert legal and regulatory support on insurance compliance matters, including product development, underwriting, pricing, privacy and marketing activities.
  • Advise on and manage complex regulatory inquiries from US insurance regulators, including issues related to product form, wordings and rate filings.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence on potential insurance partners and intermediaries, ensuring they meet our rigorous compliance standards.
  • Stay abreast of evolving US insurance regulations, including Surplus Lines and Risk Purchasing Group program requirements.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders within the US insurance industry, including regulatory bodies, industry associations, and insurance agents.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Member in good standing of the bar of at least one US state or equivalent Compliance professional qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as an insurance compliance professional, with a proven track record of success in a hands-on, client-facing commercial environment.
  • Extensive experience in Surplus Lines regulation and Risk Retention amp; Risk Purchasing Group related programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and resolve complex compliance and regulatory matters with US insurance regulators.
  • Expertise in advising on regulatory compliance issues for at least 5 US states, including New York (NY) and California (CA).
  • Exceptional self-starter with a proven ability to take on diverse and challenging tasks independently.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks efficiently, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Passionate about continuous learning and staying up-to-date with the latest developments in insurance law and compliance.

Our budget for this role is $180,000 - $200,000 USD and we will take into account your previous experience and agreed primary location of work when agreeing on the final offer.
