Job Description

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Refund Specialist who will be all-in on our mission and who will process refunds, maintain collection records, report students to collection agency in a timely fashion, process billings, receipt payments amp; deregistration of student accounts daily. Additional tasks include assisting with bank deposits, replying to emails and answering phone calls as well as helping students, staff and faculty when necessary.

EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred: Associates Degree or Equivalent

EXPERIENCE

Required: One (1) year of clerical experience in accounting.

Preferred: Two (2) years of clerical experience in accounting.

JOB DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Issue refunds to students for academic, continuing education, housings, sponsor billings and other miscellaneous refunds.
  • Maintain collection records on outstanding student balances.
  • Notify students of past due balances.
  • Send students to collection for unpaid debts.
  • Ensure employee scholarships are properly added to student accounts and process billing charges on student records.
  • Ensure that employee billing accounts are not past due.
  • Set up employee loan payments and apply payments towards account balance after each payroll.
  • Inform registrar’s office of student registrations with no payments.
  • Balance all funds received and process bank deposits.
  • Answer questions regarding outstanding balances.
  • Post in-person, phone, mail and direct deposit payments to student accounts.
  • Process third party billings.
  • Remove credit restriction holds from student accounts.
  • Answer internal and external phone calls pertaining to student records.
  • Answer emails in the general business office inbox.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu), Pay grade 7 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices, buildings, campuses and (occasionally) inter-city locations. Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office and lab supplies up to 30 pounds.

Work Conditions: This position operates in a professional office and computer lab. This position may require work outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
