POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineering Director leads teams of software engineers working on different projects. They provide leadership, direction, and management to the managers of these teams. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, setting project priorities, and ensuring the timely and efficient completion of software engineering work. The candidate must have a proven track record in successfully leading and delivering teams building commercial software. The candidate must be able to influence and work with both senior management and groups of engineering managers. A skill for motivating and delivering high quality SaaS solutions in an agile development methodology must be proven. The candidate will be responsible for leading a group of teams that work on cloud-based and/or on-premise applications. Ability to communicate and interface with customers and partners is expected. Knowledge and ability to break down to apply industry standards will be required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a group of teams of dedicated engineers to achieve high-quality, on-time deliverables.
- Work with product directors, as well as product marketing and support to develop and prioritize work products.
- Identify and develop plans with technical leads for needed architectural improvements to ensure the delivery of high quality, sustainable solutions.
- Lead engineering managers in their work of collaboratively designing next-generation cloud systems along with enterprise and solution architects.
- Identify and develop plans for continuous process improvements.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects; communicating progress, setting expectations and delivering on schedule.
- Mentor and grow engineering managers in skills, communication and development process.
- Promote established standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle.
- Foster innovation and IP creation for all technologies.
- Serve as the technical arm of a group leadership trifecta, assessing technical possibilities, dependencies, and challenges, and being accountable for feasibility.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Proven experience in engineering leadership roles, with a strong track record of team management and mentorship.
- A track record of 8-10+ years of related development and leadership experience.
- Experience implementing agile development teams using methodologies such as SCRUM. Scrum master certification is a plus.
- Experience with object oriented coding, web technologies, web services, rules engines, compiler languages/parsing, performance and scalability.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, and a capacity for attending to details.
- Extensive knowledge of development principles, methods, and processes.
- Proficient with problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence positive change.
- Detail oriented.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Past experience in a fast-paced high-tech company is a plus.
