Job Description

The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is a communications strategist at heart and is responsible for developing and implementing marketing communications strategies and comprehensive supporting development plans to achieve organization specific marketing, development, business, and communication goals. As part of successfully achieving these goals, this newly created position draws upon their expertise and the expertise of others within the organization to ensure that marketing, communication, branding, development, message strategy and public relations goals are met in a timely and cost-effective manner and works collaboratively within and outside the institution.

This talented communications strategist can lead projects involving multiple staff and is adept at navigating sometimes-competing deadlines. The right person will thrive in a rapid-fire environment. Successful applicants will know how to manage client relations and be comfortable presenting ideas in front of groups and individuals. This position affords the opportunity for the right candidate to innovate, brainstorm and bring an entrepreneurial spirit to the work.

The CMO reports directly to the CEO and works closely with both the CEO and COO. The CMO must be comfortable working both in association with the executive team and independently and therefore must be self-motivated in developing appropriate strategic communication plans. The CMO will be expected to understand and use quality principles and tools in managing their own work systems and processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and plan multiple concurrent projects.
  • Scope projects and manage project budgets.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for key clients and funder relationships.
  • Actively participate in internal brainstorming sessions about business development and opportunities for thought leadership.
  • Identify opportunities for business development and thought leadership.
  • Represent Resource Media before funders/partners by phone and in person.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Draft media outreach materials, blogs, and social media content.
  • Develop innovative strategy using both tradition and digital media platforms.
  • Articulate long-term program direction.
  • Interpret opinion and on-line research to create sharp, innovative messaging and communications strategies.
  • Incorporate visual elements into all aspects of our work.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree Preferred.
  • At least 5-10 years of experience in communications or public relations with significant experience designing and implementing strategy in support of social change.
  • Bi-lingual is a plus.
  • Excellent client relations skills.
  • Experience working with the non-profit sector.
  • Track record identifying new business and grant possibilities and opportunities for thought leadership.
  • Demonstrated understanding of public policy and the role of communications in garnering needed support.
  • Proficiency in incorporating social media and other digital platforms into a comprehensive communications strategy.
  • Excellent writing skills (writing samples may be requested).
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Proven track record of successfully working with traditional and online media outlets.
  • Experience with culture-centered media.
  • Basic understanding of workforce development.
  • A spirit of collaboration and a love of engaging in generative thinking.
  • Ability to interact with and work with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to make judgments in demanding situations.
  • Ability to react to frequent changes in duties and volume of work.
  • Ability to listen empathetically.
  • Ability to logically organize details.
  • Comfortable accepting responsibility for medium to large scale projects involving multiple resources and spanning many months from start to finish.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent activities.
  • Ability to write for grants, print, broadcast, web, and social media as needed.
  • This is an in-person position, this is NOT a remote position.
