Job Description

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Truck Driving Trainer at East Campus who will be all-in our mission and who will play a critical role in helping students develop the skills they need to succeed in the truck driving industry. Responsibilities include teaching both on and off-campus and assisting students in learning industry regulations, driving techniques, and safety procedures.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma

Preferred: Associate Degree in Diesel Maintenance or equivalent. Work experience of five (5) or more years can be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Three (3) years of experience in truck operations.

Preferred:

  • Five (5) years verifiable safe driving record for CDL within the last seven (7) years.
  • Five (5) or more years responsible over-the-road tractor-trailer maintenance of 15+ vehicles.
  • Recent teaching experience in the CDL Training Industry.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:

Required: Valid Class A Driver License with a 3-year safe driving record.

Preferred: ASE (Auomotive Service Excellence) Diesel certification at a Mastery level; Endorsement: Tanker, Haz-mat, and Doubles.

JOB DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, develop and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.
  • Perform effective teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research, and internships.
  • Train students the basic operations of commercial vehicles including various combinations such as tankers, double/triple trailers, flatbeds, dry vans and reefers.
  • Perform equipment inspections and site evaluations in preparation for classroom and hands-on training.
  • Perform minor and major repairs on trucks and trailers per CDL operator.
  • Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, orderliness and safe practices for classroom.
  • Participate in department, division and college meetings.
  • Produce or write training manuals to cover classroom and field training exercises.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS amp; ABILITIES

  • Ability to conduct the highest quality classroom and hands-on instruction for the entirety of an assigned class.
  • Demonstrate competence in teaching/training and related technologies.
  • Ensure effective two-way communication at all levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations concerning operations of all motor vehicles especially truck and trailer laws.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu), Pay grade 12 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to perform a wide range of motion and mobility tasks involving climbing, crawling, bending, pulling, pushing and lifting in teaching and demonstrating operation procedures.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work in inclement weather standing for long periods of time in a classroom setting.

Work Environment: This position works in a classroom environment but can include extensive travel and overnight stays may be required. Evening, weekend, and holiday work as needed.
