Job Description

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Custodial Shift Leader who will be all-in on our mission and who will perform custodial work and assist the Assistant Custodial Superintendent in performing supervisory work. Responsibilities include offering support and assistance with the supervision of custodial employees in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, fitness centers, laboratories, furnishings and equipment as well as building entrances.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Completion of 10th grade.

Preferred: High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Two (2) years of experience in custodial or cleaning in a commercial setting.

Preferred: Three (3) years of custodial/cleaning experience in a commercial setting, with shift or supervisory experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Required: Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a 3-year safe driving record.

JOB DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect buildings to determine the need for staff, cleaning and other work.
  • Receive and handle complaints from occupants of buildings and offices.
  • Inspect custodial equipment regularly before and after use to determine need for new parts, repairs, overhaul, or replacement.
  • Assist with inventory control of custodial supplies and equipment to determine the need for additional supplies.
  • Complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and supplies.
  • Monitor work of assigned crew members.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Report to supervisor regarding work completed and unusual technical or personal issues.
  • Observe and report through the maintenance work order system any and all defects, deterioration, and wear and tear on college facilities.
  • Instruct employees in proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance to develop an effective custodial team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS amp; ABILITIES

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
  • Supervisory skills: management skills, such as planning and organizing; strong oral and written communication skills; and the abilities to train new employees are required.
  • Knowledge of proper methods of lifting and moving heavy objects.
  • Knowledge of proper use and upkeep of hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations with toxic cleaning agents.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbally.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu), Pay grade 6 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, reach, pull, push, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. Must be comfortable with working in small, confined spaces as required as well as working in a variety of inclement weather and climatic conditions. Must be able to stand on or in wet areas to clean clogged lines and fixtures as well as withstand odors typically occurring with clogged fixtures and pipelines. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull and maneuver objects up to 30 pounds; must be able to maneuver heavy objects in excess of 200 pounds with assistance of others and/or appropriate equipment.

Working Environment: This position operates in various office/campus facilities location in addition to indoor and outdoor environments. This position require work with little to no supervision. During the performance of this position, the employee may be exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards as well as working in a variety of inclement weather and climatic conditions.
