This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Senior Advising Associate who will be all-in on our mission and who will help students achieve their educational and career aspirations through offering information, guidance, and assistance. Develop and maintain complimentary transfer support strategies at partner institutions and maintain meaningful relationships with department leaders.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or other related fields.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Three (3) years of experience in working K-12 or higher education.

Preferred: Supervisory experience or experience in student affairs, academic advising, student services, or related field in higher education.

JOB DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the department lead in the absence of the Associate Director and Director of Advising.
  • Advise students regarding degree requirements, career options, employment possibilities, and transfer needs.
  • Evaluate individual education plans and degree plans as required by state stature for students.
  • Assist students in registration process utilizing AC institutional software, and work retention alert items for your students to enhance student completion and successful transfer.
  • Participate in activities to recruit and retain students.
  • Facilitate trainings as requested by the Associate Director/Director of Advising.
  • Participate in cross-training activities within the department or as directed by the Associate Director/Director of Advising.
  • Train new academic advisors and other unit staff on key student service functions.
  • Support the continued implementation of the AC Advising Model, in keeping with the Amarillo College mission of Student Success.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with department leadership and faculty.
  • Track students after graduation to ensure successful articulation agreements for transferring students.

  • Ability to possess leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to serve as backup for other academic programs as needed.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member of the advising department.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain large caseloads of students.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress and work with students and employees in a professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of secure documents and sensitive records.
  • Strong technology skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Student queueing systems and student records databases.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Accuracy in spelling and grammar.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu), Pay grade 11 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Evenings and on weekend per month will be required to work. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
