Job Description

AIChE, founded in 1908, is a professional society of more than 60,000 chemical engineers in 110 countries. Its members work in corporations, universities, and government, using their knowledge of chemical processes to develop safe and useful products for the benefit of society. AIChE fosters and disseminates chemical engineering knowledge, assists the professional and personal growth of its members, and applies the expertise of its members to address societal needs and improve the quality of life. Through its varied programs, AIChE continues to be a focal point for information exchange on the frontiers of chemical engineering research in such areas as energy, sustainability, biological and environmental engineering, nanotechnology, and chemical plant safety and security.

The RAPID Manufacturing Institute, part of the Manufacturing USA network, operates out of AIChE, in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE), as a collaborative technology ecosystem (development, scale-up, education) to enable the transformation of the process industries for a decarbonized, energy and capital efficient future further advancing U.S. manufacturing competitiveness.

Position Summary

The RAPID Education amp; Workforce Development Specialist will be responsible for the successful implementation of all RAPID Education amp; Workforce Development Programs, including but not limited to: eLearning courses, live webinars, face-to-face courses, EWD projects through partnerships with RAPID members, a professional credential, an intern program, K-12 outreach program, undergraduate student competition, and custom training programs for company partners (e.g. co-op training program, full-time engineer training program, built off of RAPID Intern Program).

The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who enjoys working with students, can converse and collaborate with technical experts, is comfortable with public speaking, and has a high degree of attention to detail and initiative. This person will report to the Director of Education amp; Workforce Development.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal departments (Academy, marketing, web, IT, Customer Service, sales) to ensure completion of milestones
  • Provide budget proposal and manage approved department budget including submission of required documents and reporting
  • Plan, schedule and oversee educational offerings and implementation of courses and webinars
  • Recruit and, where necessary, contract with subject matter experts to develop educational content
  • Oversee the successful completion of existing RAPID EWD projects
  • Ensure educational content quality and the alignment of content to established learning objectives
  • Coordinate and manage RAPID Intern Program including setting schedule for recurring spring, summer and fall programs, communications for nomination deadlines, assigning content to students, troubleshooting, and facilitating weekly meetings
  • Responsible for the implementation of a yearly undergraduate engineering competition held at AIChE’s Annual Meeting
  • Collaborate with external partners to manage and oversee the implementation a RAPID K-12 career discovery program
  • Manage the implementation of a process intensification professional credential
  • Execution of custom training program with external partners and accountable for customer satisfaction

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Science or Engineering required; Master’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Science or Engineering a plus
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience required; 5-7 years a plus
  • Working knowledge of learning theories and emerging education technologies
  • Commitment to learning quality and the success of the learner
  • Excellent written and communication skills including the ability to develop and give impactful presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to plan timelines, implement projects and complete milestones
  • Able to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills; strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully within a highly collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with volunteers, faculty, and senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and tackle challenges and opportunities not previously mentioned
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products; experience with Slack a plus
  • 15% travel required
