Job Description

Come work for Animal Humane Society as a Summer Camp Counselor Lead where caring for animals isn’t just a job it’s our passion. We are on a mission to compassionately and responsibly create a more humane world for animals and their people.

Pay: $18.00/hour ($2.00 increase for internal employees)

Benefits:

·Paid Time Off (accrual based on # of hours worked)

Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours per week. From 6/3/24 until 8/26/24

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Location: Woodbury or St. Paul

Job Purpose: You lead and support the delivery of activities and organization of summer day camp for youth in grades 3-10. You serve as a point of contact for camp staff, families, and internal departments at AHS. You are supportive, flexible, and open to different ideas. You help to ensure all campers have a positive, fun, and safe experience at AHS summer camp.

What you will be doing:

Leadership Own outcomes, work collaboratively, and hold yourself and the team accountable.

Relationship Building Enthusiastically greet children and guardians. Provide guardians with appropriate feedback and information regarding camp and their camper(s). Act as a liaison to the camp’s host site and communicate with other leaders on site as needed.

Education Responsible for leading or supervising the daily camp curriculum and programming. Participate in the teaching and progression of lessons and activities, including adapting to differing camper ages, abilities and group dynamics. Oversee behavior management ensuring a positive experience for all campers.

Support Provide support to the summer camp program including maintenance of supplies and camp records and post camp wrap-up. Assist in the implementation of staff training.

Culture Foster an open and inclusive work environment by modeling AHS’s behaviors and values, consistent with the vision and mission of the organization. Champion a culture of safety and promote meaningful volunteer engagement.

Requirements

What we are looking for:

Schedule Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during camp operations hours as defined by management for the full camp season.

Experience Experience working with youth in grades 3-10 required. Experience leading youth programs or other leadership experience preferred.

Adaptability Ability to work in a professional and positive manner with high attention to detail in a variety of situations.

Communication Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, must have ability to work as a member of the team and partner collaboratively with external and internal customers and departments.

Physical amp; Emotional Capabilities Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of euthanasia. Summer camp staff must be able to stay engaged and active with youth throughout the day. Camp activities are both outdoors and indoors in a variety of weather conditions. Should be comfortable with handling a variety of animals. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
