This position is compensated at the level C rate on the Midd Student Wage scale.

The Orientation Interns are integral members of our Orientation team and serve as critical links

between student leaders, staff, faculty, new students (first-years, transfers, and exchanges),

families, and the Middlebury College community. They are ambassadors of the College and the

faces and voices of our orientation programs.

Key responsibilities include developing a vision and schedule for Orientation, communicating

with new students and their families, managing the orientation website, social media, and other

communications, planning and assisting with events, managing complex logistics, and training

and supervising other student staff. Interns are expected to work in person at 37.5 hours per

week during the summer from June 17, 2024 through September 13, 2024.

Specific Responsibilities

*Serve as the primary contact and voice of the orientation programs for incoming new students,

their families, and a wide variety of campus partners

*Maintain the orientation website and various social media accounts

*Plan, coordinate, and facilitate various orientation activities

*Establish welcoming and inclusive relationships with incoming students

*Assist with the development and facilitation of orientation leader training for the student leaders

*Actively participate in the design and production of various orientation print media

*Help create and implement assessment tools and evaluation processes for new students and

family members

*Be willing, if able, to lift heavy boxes, move materials, stuff packets, and provide general

assistance as needed

*Help as needed with additional duties that emerge over the course of planning and

coordinating orientation.

Requirements

*A genuine desire to create a welcoming, inclusive and effective orientation experience for new

students and their families

*Extensive knowledge of Middlebury College and its history, students, academics, campus life,

and traditions

*A positive attitude and an interest in learning, thinking creatively, and working as a member of a

team

*A commitment to work from June 17, 2024 through September 13, 2024, including being on

campus during summer.

*Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

*Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced and complex environment. Ability to

hold peers accountable, to be highly motivated, and to serve as a role model to the rest of the

orientation staff and new students

*Excellent computer, communication, and office skills and experience with virtual platforms such

as Drupal, Zoom, social media, video editing software. Regardless, a willingness to learn these

programs is a must.

*Sense of humor

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
