Job Description

The Center for Careers and Internships is seeking a dedicated and motivated undergraduate student with a keen interest in data analysis and sentiment analysis techniques. As an Undergraduate Student Researcher - Sentiment Analysis Researcher, you will play a pivotal role in our research endeavors, utilizing R Studio and advanced sentiment analysis methodologies to extract valuable insights from datasets.

We are specifically looking to develop insights from qualitative data from internship evaluations, summer survey data, and other sources of information available to the office.

Responsibilities:

1. Utilize R Studio to preprocess, clean, and analyze datasets for sentiment analysis purposes.

2. Implement sentiment analysis algorithms and techniques to extract sentiment polarity and subjectivity from textual data.

3. Develop and refine scripts or programs in R to automate data processing and analysis tasks.

4. Collaborate with the research team to identify research questions and objectives related to sentiment analysis.

5. Conduct literature reviews to gather relevant information on sentiment analysis methodologies and best practices.

6. Assist in the design and execution of experiments or studies involving sentiment analysis.

7. Generate reports and visualizations to communicate research findings effectively.

8. Maintain documentation of data processing and analysis procedures for reproducibility and transparency.

9. Participate in regular meetings with supervisors to discuss progress, challenges, and next steps.

Requirements

Qualifications:

1. Proficiency in R programming language and experience using R Studio for data analysis.

2. Understanding of sentiment analysis techniques and methodologies.

3. Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP) tools and libraries in R (e.g., tidytext, quanteda).

4. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

5. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

7. Prior experience with sentiment analysis projects or coursework is preferred but not required.

8. Enthusiasm for learning and applying new technologies and methodologies in research.

9. Availability to commit to the position for the specified duration.

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
